Hey everyone, now that offers have been given for January/April 2019 intakes, mind as well fire up a new discussion for the September 2019 intake.
Anyone else planning to take the LIBS courses prior to applying?

As in you pay to take them prior to your program entry and then pay again once you are in the program. Reason is that you are not paying tuition per course but for the entire program itself when enrolled. This information came from BCIT when I called them. Wowsers!
Honestly, after just completing my libs 7021, I'd pay double to not do it with a full course load ? my cohort doesn't start for a while still because of the postponements but after speaking with students already in the program it is highly worth taking it beforehand. It took a lot of time and I only had one other course with it.

You won’t be paying for the LIBS classes a second time. If you don’t self register for LIBS in term 1 and term 5, you don’t go into term 3 or term 6. 7001 is a requirement for term 3 and 7002/7021 is a requirement for term 6. They aren’t included in your program so you have to self register. I’m almost certain she/he spoke to a regular advisor or whatever that isn’t the nursing program advisor. Hence why the misinformation.

Fantastic news, thank you!

Yeah, probably the case here. This advisor caused me to panic thinking this was true. Thus, I wanted to double check here. As most people on here have taken these courses. I apologize if I mislead anyone. I was just going by what was said. I'm glad this isn't true.

And yeah, it’s a smart thing to take both LIBS before you actually need to take them. Especially for 7002/7021 because ethics can be challenging for some people, I know I found it tough even though I thought I understood the material, and allows an individual to retake it assuming they didn’t do so hot the first time. And I was also told that the course load begins to pick up starting term 2 (when you actually have to take the first LIBS class), so having it done would just make your life easier cause either way, you will have to take it.

No worries, glad you brought it up rather than panic about it. Glad to clarify things for you and next time, if you have questions, do speak with the Bcit nursing program advisor vs the general staff. So much easier cause you get accurate information from them!

Libs 7021 was so tricky for me. I thankfully passed but it took a lot of brain power. Philosophy isn't my strong point.

Yah if you aren't in a program you can't get a student loan for them, had to pay out of pocket.

Yeah, I have some friends in my cohort that had to repeat it. I was lucky that I passed first try and am glad I don’t have to take it again LOL. Any who, if you need tips for term 1, hit me up, I’ll be glad to share ?

Thank you again!
You can take them any time. I took them during my application process and completed it before they started selecting students. If you complete it before the application, you can let the nursing program advisor know that you completed both LIBS classes, or even just one of them. They will be able to check that you completed the LIBS classes and complete toon of it only helps you in your application process because it will give you more points when they score your application. But it isn’t a requirement to take before the application. You can take it after you’ve got accepted as well, but just keep in mind 7001 has to be done during term 2 or earlier, and 7021 has to be done during term 5 or earlier or you won’t get into the future terms. You cannot take it at the same time as term 3 and 6.
