BCIT Nursing Application January 2022

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone- I thought I would make this post for students applying in January 2022. Please post any information that may be comfortable. Also feel free to share the number of credits you have, grades and GPA, etc. We’re all in this together!

A lot because they closed the application before the deadline.

Hi I think I found a useful calculation to calculate your GPA between schools.

Basically;

School 1: # of credits * Cgpa = S1

school 2: # of credits * Cgpa = S2

school 3: # of credits * Cgpa = S3

overall GPA between schools:

= (S1 + S2 + S3)/sum of all credits between all schools

I hope this helps

Thanks

Stupid question but if they send your application for department review does that mean you have the minimum requirements ?

THEY CLOSED THE APPLICATION BEFORE THE DEADLINE...??? How come I never heard about this...?? Mine says "pending department review" - does that mean my application is not accepted for this intake?

Yup I’m pretty sure. I emailed the admissions team about another question, but the admissions team reviews your application and gives it to the department for review if you meet minimal requirements.

Just in case you can email the nursing department.

If you are worried about your application called and ask to speak to admissions, then ask for Jolly nursing admission lady. She will give you more details about your application

Thanks , is this your first time applying ? What did you apply with?

I finished health foundation program at KPU with 3.7, currently finishing up Douglas's foundation program - GPA around 3.6 as well. I have 50 credits in total.
I worked at customer service for about 5 years. I have lots of volunteer experiences tho, - at E.Hastings to provide meals and assistances to people, at an Aboriginal community to support youths, at a mission society to provide care for people with disabilities and more. But I heard they don't count volunteer experiences in their scoring system.
For casper, I honestly don't know. I didn't get to fully answer all the questions.
Overall, It's not that strong, but still applied!

This was sent to me by an advisor

Successful Applicant Profile:

·       Applicants are ranked on a point system that includes: post-secondary education, overall post-secondary GPA, healthcare-related (paid) work experience, CASPer test results, content/competency of the mandatory applicant questionnaire.

·       Academic qualifications - in recent competitions, competitive applicants had 30-70 post-secondary credits or more completed at the time of application. Please note, the number of credits change from one intake to another. LPNs receive 45 post-secondary credits towards their application.

·       Work experience.  General work experience is reviewed.  Having health-related work experience can enhance (not required) an application.

·       Overall GPA.  Having a good GPA (e.g. 3.0 and above) may enhance an application. Note, this is your overall GPA in post-secondary, not only in the academic foundation courses (baseline GPA will vary from intake to intake, depending on the applicant pool).

The main ranked criteria for BSN applicants is 1)  Post-Secondary Education;  2)  CASPer score;  3)  Non-Cognitive Questionnaire (NCQ) score;  4)  Related (paid) work experience;  5)  GPA  (currently, a competitive GPA is around 3.0) - GPA is calculated on a cumulative basis from all post-secondary transcripts that the applicant submits.

Final ranking scores for applicants are based on factors as outlined above and applicants with different experiences can have similar scores; for example, an applicant may have low points under education, but a high CASPer score, and another applicant may have a low NCQ score but has a completed degree – there are many areas that determine the final ranking.  Work experience must be over four months to be counted, however, it is not rated on length of employment, but on the level of the position (e.g. LPNs rate higher than a paramedic).

Although academics play a large role in the competitive admissions process for the BSN program, the Nursing program area and the BCIT Admissions department will look at all of the above factors when selective applicants for the program.

Quick question, will you still submit all your transcripts even if you will have a bad GPA but that would enhance your amount of credit?

Hello Folks,

my Casper test says delivered ?. Hopefully we start hearing by next week.
