BCIT January 2020

World Canada CA Programs

My fellow nursing prospects, I hope CASPer treated you well. Any idea when we find out if we’ve gotten in? What did you all apply with?

As per the advisors at BCIT, I’m in the 8%’ers—I only have 32 credits, my cGPA is 3.6 but my overall GPA is lower because of two classes I was unable to complete over 10 years ago; however I’ve been a nuclear medicine tech for 12 years. I applied for nursing on a whim so let’s see what happens!

Good luck everyone!!

The waiting is tough, that’s true. Unfortunately it’s competitive and there are limited seats. I decided to pursue a career change and do nursing. When I made that decision I wanted it to happen right away. But upgrading courses and waiting for application dates can take a couple years, and I had to learn patience. You can take a couple nursing courses from BCIT ahead of time if you want to lighten your load a bit later. That may give you something to do as you wait.

Yeah, the only 2 you can take are the LIBS classes, specifically 7001 (requirement for entrance to term 3) and 7021 or 7002 (requirement for term 6).

That's a good idea! Thanks!

The struggle is real! ?

Are these courses hard or difficult?

No, I completed them both at the same time online. One of them is critical reading and writing, the other one touches base on ethics (7002 is ethics and 7021 is health ethics; either is fine)

I guess I just need to think of when I could take them, especially if I have a long wait to see if I get into the program. Thanks!

I would take them as early as possible, because when you are applying, you can tell them and let them note that you are currently taking those courses because they can check when scoring your application. Taking both libs classes will give you extra points on your application basically

I heard from others that the first round of offers for January intake are made starting around June, with subsequent offers made all the way until October? That’s what someone told me, so don’t take my word for it. I am also hoping to get into January 2021. So even if you find out before the end of summer, that would still give you time to enrol into the LIBS courses in September and finish them before you start school in January.

Yep, the acceptance starts being given during June and onwards to October depending on how many people applied and met the requirements. But if you’re dead on going to BCIT, getting the libs courses out of the way would be the smart route to go considering the fact that term2 is going to be a learning curve and having libs 7001 out of the way makes a big difference. Just a heads up, all nurses courses are prescheduled by the school and the 2 libs courses are the only courses you have to register on your own. Making note that if they aren’t completed by the end of term2 and term5, you will not move onto the next term.

Does this mean that you don't have to register for the courses while in the program and instead are given a schedule of classes each term? Other schools, will have a student register each semester in the classes from what I heard.

Yes, the cohort of 64 students will be separated in half and you will be given a course schedule. You do not need to register for anything aside from the libs classes. The cohort students will mix around though.

Hey! I noticed your posts on some of the forums and wanted to say thanks for all the helpful information! It really helped me with my application to BCIT. Do you know how they mark the non-cog quiz and what they take into consideration? I recently just did mine for the fall intake and I can't tell if I did well or if I completely bombed it lol. I've been thinking about it nonstop
