BCIT January 2017

World Canada CA Programs

Just wanted to start a group for students applying for the BCIT January program!

What I know from the Department, that for the August 2016 intake the number of applicants has been 316 per 96 available seats, what is not super-killing, as means 3,3 per seat. However, it`s different for each intake. I`ve heard that it used to be in the range of 400-700 depending on the particular intake.....My friends who have applied to programs in Douglas, VCC or Camosun etc now have to wait for a long time before they start(could be even up to 2 years, that`s in Douglas). Therefore many of them would be willing to apply to BCIT but decided not to do that because of the competitiveness, not first came first served.....

Hi, it`s ok, we are in the same boat, I mean nursing)))

my bachelor is fully complete, for more than 150 credits, it`s in economics. I did it in Europe, and further made the comprehensive evaluation as well as IELTS examination in order to build up strong profile. Actually I came to Canada 2 years ago )))

I`ve done an attempt to get into the Midwifery in UBC the last Fall/winter, but I didn`t get in. There were up to 200 applicants per 15 seats, they added 5 more seats, but most people were with lpn nursing licence, and with regard to clinical hands-on - it`s more favorable than academic credentials.

That's funny, the competitive nature of entry to the program is why I applied there. With a decent GPA and volunteer hours I'm hoping I won't have to wait for 2-3 years to get in :S

Wow! That is some intense odds for the midwifery! I know how you feel. Maybe I'm just used to the competition ;) In music there was something like 2000 applicants for 1 spot. There's a point when you become one with the rejection.

I really hope my application is strong enough to stand out though. I haven't applied to any back ups yet.

I plan on applying to Langara and VCC in january when I'm done these last 2 pre reqs ( english and stats) and i have heard that langara is also super competitive to get into and they ONLY look at grades and GPA... not volunteering and work experience like at BCIT. I like that BCIT isn't just about grades. Best of luck to you all!

Guys, best wishes to all of us! We can do it and we will!))))

I alplied with 30 sumthing credits. 40 volunteer hours. But my grades are mostly B's í ½í¸ I am so nervous right now. How i wish they'd let us know sooner í ½í¹

Hello All!

Does anyone know if it is possible to add something to your application after we've already applied? I applied right when the applications opened in May but at the end of June began working as a personal care assistant and have been with her through the summer. The only other experience I have listed on my application is about 40 volunteer hours at a seniors facility which might help, but I'm thinking the personal care will add more value to my application.

Your advise is appreciated!

Good luck everyone :)

Hi aliabeth,

You may want to contact the department via general inquiries e-mail and ask if they allow you to add anything. However, as I understand, after the deadline you generally can't unless you are told to do that

Hey aliabeth, I don't think its possible because that link that used to be there before the application deadline where you could upload is gone. I remember an advisor telling me to upload everything BEFORE the deadline date. I doubt you can add anything cause they are reviewing applications now, but it doesn't hurt to call an ask! I really hope they can make an exception for you! Good luck :)

Hi everyone I am also applying to the program!

I have applied with a 3.4 gpa for my pre reqs and have 78 university credits. I also have over 350+ hours of volunteering from a nursing home, the Richmond hospital and from summer camps with kids. I am very nervous about hearing back from them! Good luck to you all.

I applied with about A average from UBC. I have no idea what that translates to at BCIT. I am a full time student and a mother of two babies so I don't have much recent volunteer or work experience. But I am hoping that my grades are competitive enough to get me in :) Finger crossed for everyone
