BCIT January 2017

Published

Just wanted to start a group for students applying for the BCIT January program!

Hi all,

After contacting the department regarding potential spots opening up after the tuition deadline, it looks like they won't be calling until the end of the long weekend - so Monday at the earliest. I'm on the hold list as well, and hopefully will be joining you all in the January intake!

Best of luck to those on the wait list.

Hi everyone, I'm Conrad

I was accepted into the program around Oct 19th. I just found out about this forum. I am now getting all my stuff together now. Just wanted to say hi to any of my fellow classmates.

Conrad

Congratulations to you Conrad and good luck to everyone on the hold list! The tuition deadline was Nov 9th so there should be more people getting offers soon :)

Hello,

For those of you who deferred your acceptance to next intake, do you have to go through all the application process again? Or are you guaranteed a seat in the upcoming intake?

Thanks in advance!

Hi baiyujen. I deffered the term, so will be starting in August 21. I don't have to do anything, however I need to complete conditional requirements later (by May), whereas the commitment fee is required by December 7,2016. If you have any questions, feel free to ask

Is the only way to defer your acceptance is by providing medical documentation stating you cannot commit to the term? I am concerned about the cost of the program. I am currently in the top 5 on the wait list for January 2017 and if I get accepted in the next few weeks, I won't have even half the amount it costs saved up.

WannabeRn first thing first, I didn't provide any medical documents because the reason of my deferral is due to family circumstances. I just contacted the Department and explained my situation, and they gave me a deferral.

However, the financials as far as I know do not constitute a valid reason, because you can always get your loan through BC student aid, I've never had problems with that.

Anyway, it's always good to ask from them or to contact financial aid, you shouldn't wait until the very end and put that risk

Yes, thank-you! I'll have to see how things go. It's not ideal finding out a week before the program starts that I've been accepted. I am also having some health issues but not sure if they would be considered reason enough to defer. I guess I'll have to cross the road when I get there.

I have a question for any of the current or previous students. From my understanding, you spend a lot of time in the hospitals throughout the program. Are there only two preceptorships though? And those occur at the end of the program? I am wondering if I would be able to maintain a Saturday/Sunday job through the program up until near the end. Could someone please help me. Thank-you!

I just started the program in January and have been working about 10hrs on the weekends (sat and sun) and about 2-3 hrs during the week split up between two days. As of right now I'm finding it totally do-able though that may change as the program becomes more demanding in the next levels.

Hey guys

Question I am doing my LPN then ill apply Vcc which is my top choice other then Camosun. so my question is how the hell does everyone know what all the credits add up to? does anyone know if you get credits for LPN program and how many credits do you receive for the program??
