BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Oh that's definitely weird! And must be new because I was reading what the 2018 intake was saying and people knew if they were top 10 or not

I feel like they might tell you "top 10" or "top 50" but not the exact number

I got accepted last night :) if anyone wants to add me on Facebook my name is Isabel Seminario!

Congratulations! What did you apply with? Did you get accepted into the Jan or April intake?

I applied for January 2019. I applied with a sports science diploma from Douglas college and 2 years experience as a care aid for Cerebral Palsy patients and elderly people. Overall GPA wasn't the strongest because of my first year but I had a strong pre req GPA (3.5). I also have 7 years customer service and 3 years volunteering at a hospital

Hey guys, Ive been following your conversation since last week, and now Im so stressed cause i didnt get any emails.

My last name starts with Z so im really hopeful that they are processing applications alphabetically.

Wish you all luck

Did you apply for the January or April intake?

Hey! I also have been silently following this thread. This is my 2nd time applying and haven't received an email either.

Hey Nhlznd! Good luck to you as well :) what did you apply with for the intake?

I apologize if I ever bug anybody on this thread about asking what they're applying with by the way í ½í¸‚ I just think it's interesting to hear what different educational and work backgrounds everybody has!

I feel like I haven't heard any news about the April intake thus far. Hopefully, someone will say something, please? LOL

I applied with a Bachelor degree in biology from ubc, 4 different health volunteer jobs and sales experience.

My overall gpa for my bachelor is about 75%, but my pre req courses are all in A.

I thought I am in a good condition, I doubt it now lol

btw I applied for January

I applied with pre req gpa of 3.3. I completed the douglas academic foundations, so I've done Micro and Patho as well. After getting rejected last year I went into the Douglas College health care assistant program, was employed right after I graduated that certificate and currently work as a care aid at a care home. I'm also taking libs 7001 course this semester. Also have previous experience in serving/assistant managing at a restaurant.

Not sure how I did on the quiz, not very confident in one of the answers I gave.

Anyways, hoping for the best for all of us! And not giving up on April intake yet.
