BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Ahhh I got shortlisted too!! I heard from admissions we will find out by Halloween after the questionnaire.

BCIT said about 200 people were shortlisted and 64 will be offered seats

Okay wow.. when you put it like that, the odds don't seem as great :/ What is it, a 32% chance of getting in?

That's honestly SO SOON. Literally two weeks after writing the questionnaire we'll find out our final status, feels unreal!!

Hi my fellow aspiring RNs :)

I've been following this thread literally since it was created and I also got shortlisted! I've completed 60 credits from SFU with a 3.53 cGPA. Here are my pre-req marks:

Pre cal 11- 94%

Chem 11- 94%

A&P 1- A

A&P 2- A-

Psych- A

Engl - B+

Stats- A

HSci- A

For my relevant experience, I put down how I've been working at a mom and pop shop for just over a year. I also put down how I volunteer at my church, specifically with children, and that I've spent a week working with a day program run by DDA.

I'm honestly so scared for this second round since I have no healthcare related work experience, but I'm hoping it works out. Good luck everyone!

@acdee Wow, your application looks amazing! From what I've heard, each section weighs 1/3: the non-cognitive questionnaire, education (post-sec credits) and related experience/GPA. So ultimately they want a well-rounded applicant, which you look like so far! Is this your first time applying?

Hey guys! I literally just came across this thread after reading the January/April 2018 thread, so I'm kind of new here, but I too also got short-listed! I'm much more thrilled than I really should be because there's a greater possibility that I'll get a non-offer too. I was reading over your guys' GPAs and they're definitely intimidating (not gonna lie). My GPA isn't as strong as most people's here but I applied with experience in volunteering at a hospital, a job shadowing experience of one of the head emergency nurses, and one of my old jobs!

Yes, it is my first time applying! I've been wanting to take nursing at BCIT since high school so getting on the short-list is a big deal for me haha. But just in case BCIT doesn't work out, I've transferred to Langara this semester to finish the last two pre-reqs I need to qualify for their Sept 2019 intake.

I got my email yesterday too! Really excited and nervous as this is my second time doing the questionnaire, I'm just hoping I don't mess anything up and go over the time limit. Goodluck everyone :)

Hi @curiouspanda! As this is your second time applying, did you find out any areas of your application that suggested improvement from last intake? I kinda wish I knew what parts of my application weren't necessarily as strong compared to other applicants to get a feel for the competition

Specializes in Emergency.

You should speak to an advisor about it, they would be able to help you with that.

Yeah, I think I might! I also wonder if they give any tips and tricks for the non-cognitive questionnaire such as preferred methods of answering it and so on
