BCIT APRIL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

As today is the first day to apply to BCIT for April 2020, I thought I'd start up a forum!

Is anyone else having trouble applying today?? I get an error message saying "No intakes are available at this time. Check your program's Entry page to find out when to apply." But today is June 1st?? :(

Have they communicated whats going to happen with the April nursing intake? I'm assuming it will be all online if possible or they will push it to September?

All they’ve said to us is that “options are being discussed” and they’ll let us know when they’ve figured it out. I imagine we’ll probably start online, pushing us to September would push back that intake as well & I doubt they’d want to do that.

I am an applicant for the Jan. 2021 intake (which I guess would now be April 2021?) and BCIT sent me this email today after an inquiry I made regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m sharing this for general information. Perhaps others reading this could benefit from the info.

”Due to the uncertainty of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the April 2020 term has been cancelled and all BSN terms deferred for one term.

The decision has not been made lightly and is in response to the emergency in the hospital/clinical sites that host BCIT students and the suspension of on campus classes and labs.

Students scheduled to start the program in September will now be offered a seat in the January 2021 class.

January 2021 applicants will considered for the April 2021 term, and possibly waitlisted for the January 2021 term if seats become available.“

Thanks for the info! So everyone is pushed back a semester?

Yes, all us Sept cohort got moved to Jan 2021 and April was moved to Sept 2020.

I was talking to a term 4 and they also have been placed on hold. I believe terms 1-6 have been delayed.

So what happens to the people on wait lists ?

I would email [email protected] and ask...and let us know the answer.

I imagine you’d still be on the waitlist for the same cohort. So if you were waitlisted for April 2020 you’re probably now waitlisted for Sept 2020 because there is no longer anyone starting in April.

I am not sure, definitely email them. They did tell me that if any seats open for Sept (previously April) the people that originally applied to the April cohort but accepted a seat for Sept would be offered the seats first.

I would look at it like this entire semester didn't happen. So, if youre on the waitlist for Sept, just assume you are now on the waitlist for January because the chances of a seat being free for Sept are super low as they were supposed to start in 3 weeks.

Crazy times, but they are unable to place us into clinicals and we have to be thankful they are doing what will give us the best education. That's why we all made the choice to apply to BCIT! They want to keep us safe, and educate us correctly.

Hey April/Sept, just wondering how much they are having you on campus for this term? Trying to get an idea of what January start will look like. How much is online for this semester?

Looks like we’ll be doing most things online (lectures, assignments, etc.) but labs will be done in person. We havent really received anything in detail yet! Hope this helps :)

Hello everyone,

I just got accepted into the January intake and I was hoping for some advice. What would you recommend reviewing before first day of classes? I'm very nervous. Appreciate any advice you can offer!

Congratulations! I’m in the January intake too. Once my classes this semester are done I was thinking about doing some review of the course content from anatomy and physiology because pathophysiology builds on these concepts.
