Hi everyone. Im looking at these 3 schools to go to for Nursing. I have heard a lot of good things about each of them.
Just looking for anyone who has attended or is currently attending any of these schools.
I would just like some insight from people who are attending them. Also I have two little boys at home, how hard are the programs? How much time did you or do you put in each week between classroom and clinicals.
Im going to take the pre-entrance exam at UPMC Shadyside next month. I have talked with the people at BC3 and Im going to both the Sewickley and UPMC Shadyside open houses. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :)
If you are geographically willing to attend those schools (all good, btw), I wouldn't rule out UPMC St. Margaret's, UPMC Mercy, West Penn, Westmoreland County Comm. College, or Citizen's General...although, Citi General seems to be a longer program.
And there are a couple BSN programs as well.
Good luck.
Kalley Thank you I had seen your earlier post. That was very helpful.
I think it would be easier for me to do the BC3 program because I can do all my pre reqs. until next August and if I can get in there all I will have to take then is the Nursing classes. I really like the UPMC program though as well.
Im a single mom of two young boys. My husband just left me for a lovely trashy girl.
So Im trying to figure out what route would be best for me right now.
Im really excited about starting I have been wanting to go to Nursing school for a while now.
Though my life has taken some changes right now Im not going to let it derail me from what Ive always wanted to do.
Anyway thanks again for your replies everyone, very helpful!
Hi,
I have another question for BC3 current or past Nursing students. Im sending my application in next week. I know it is very competitive to get into the school. Is there anything I can do to help set me apart in the applications? Should I write a short letter saying how much I would really like to go to the school and so on?
Is there anyone here that was accepeted into the program and did you do anything extra to help make yourself stand out?
Hope this makes sense. Im really nervous and really want to get in.
Thanks!

No, there is nothing else you can do, Sorry. I'm starting their program at the end of this month. Entrance is completely based on GPA. If you did well with your last 12 credits, you should be fine. I think my GPA for the last 12 credits was a 3.85.
I believe they accept applications up until December, so you should hear something by February. Good luck!

Not sure what book you are using to study from, but I used the Barrons book Nursing School Entrance Exams. I felt it really helped to prepare me for the test. Some parts of the tests in the practice book I did really well, other parts not as much. I'm not very good at math and that was my biggest worry on the test, and the Barrons book really helped to refresh my memory, and on the actual PSB test itself I felt wasnt that bad. The hardest part I felt was the science section. A lot of people warned me about that section, so be REALLY prepared for that part.
Good luck!
To the OP: I got into and will be attending BC3's nursing program in the fall of 2010. I'm sure by now if you've applied, you will have heard if you got in or not. I'm hoping you did - I would love to have a buddy before class begins :)
Some more on BC3, if you are still interested... I've been going there for the last 3.5 years, working on pre- and co-reqs. I really like the school. I've had mostly really good teachers, and I feel really comfortable there. One of my friends graduated from the nursing program already, and she seemed to really like it and think she learned alot. She was able to get a job while she was in school working at a psychiatric hospital in Pittsburgh (not sure of the name of it.)

Im taking the test on the 4th of April for Shadyside.
Sounds like as long as I study those books and review everything I should hopefully be ok. If not I will try again in the spring.
I have heard a lot about the UPMC program so far. Just wondering if ther is anyone out there who has attended or is attending the Butler Count Community College for their Nursing Program. I havent heard much about their program and would really like to know more about it form someone who has gone or is going thru it.
Thanks again for everyones replies. Everyone has been very helpful.
