Published

Wanted to start a forum for NP applicants for the 2026 school year. I've applied to TRU and UNBC. Background is in nursing station work in northern BC and primary care with 10 years experience.

Specializes in ER, rural.

Hey guys,

I'm currently in nursing school. Just about to start my preceptorship on a High Acuity Unit in January that I've been ESNing on! I may plan to become a NP later on in my 30s (not entirely set on it). I was wondering a couple things. Im set to graduate with a 4.10 GPA on a 4.3 scale.

Does UBC use the last 60 credits of your BSN to formulate your admissions GPA? On their website it simply states that you must have a B+ average or higher in your third- and fourth-year courses and an academic standing with at least 12 credits of third-or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC). Unlike TRU or UVIC, it doesn't explicitly state that they base their admissions decisions solely off your last 2-years or your last 60-credits. My GPA in my last 60-credits is 4.13 and my GPA in the last 2-years is 4.21. Just so confused as to what they actually look at.

The reason I'm asking is because I took 24-credits of some other uni work BEFORE ever applying to nursing. Those extra-credits bring my blended-cumulative GPA down to a 4.01 😞 It's kind of annoying as I ended up taking more than 120-credits alone of just my nursing degree. Just wondering if they would even look at those 24-credits though. If anyone has any information on this, it would be much appreciated. Happy Holidays!

With a GPA like that, even if it 4.01, you'll be just fine when you go to apply, I wouldn't worry at all.

Nothing yet! A girl in my MN class told me she also found out she didn't get in to TRU.

Wow! I didn't know they had already sent rejections.
Do you know what your classmate's work history is/how many years experience she has?

Specializes in Remote/Rural.

I was also rejected a few weeks ago after being waitlisted 2 years ago

10 years experience, outpost nursing, rural ED, forensics and primary care. Good grades

I think if you're not in interior health it's very slim odds. I believe the year applied and was waitlisted only 1 applicant outside IH got in

I'm sorry you didn't get into the program ! Hopefully you will gain acceptance elsewhere! Fingers crossed for you.

I've applied for 3 intakes now to various schools and it's becoming increasingly competitive and tbh - I think this will be my last year applying! Really hoping to gain acceptance this time around 😞
