Has anyone applied for or been accepted to Baylor's Distance ABSN starting Spring 2023?
Haley Hunt said:hey everybody, I know this thread is old. I'm currently applying and I wanted to see if anybody has any advice about the program.
Hi Haley,
I am really enjoying this program. Tips would be to not be committed to anything else during the program if possible. Put in the time to study. Be professional and studious. The convenience of finishing nursing school in a year for a BSN, and also doing school from home, was awesome. Both of those two things were my biggest concern before committing to the DABSN program because I was worried about not bonding with my cohort or having an in person experience, and also thought the length of the program would make it difficult. However, it worked out great for me and am so grateful I pick this program.

Thank you! I am very fortunate to not have to work during school. I was also wondering how the teachers were. I know Baylor has a wonderful reputation, especially with their teachers. With everything being online were the teacher still pretty engaged?

That is great, me too. The teachers imo are amazing. They are always open to questions, and emails so never fear reaching out to them. You can also set up zoom appts. They truly want to see you succeed, so that helps immensely. I have heard of other nursing programs that are very strict on deadlines and give harsh punishments for late assignments, but our teachers are very understanding and generally will work with you if you have something going on. Teachers are engaged as much as they would be as if in person. I wouldn't say I have a relationship with them though but I also don't put in that effort so I believe it's also what you put in.
I'm about to graduate in August 24 from Baylor dabsn.
it's a tough program- broken up into 3 trimesters.
Trimester 1 isn't too bad, the next 2 trimesters are more intense.
lots of reading & studying.
as you go through the program, the clinical hours seem to be increased/ or less weeks to complete the hours so you are doing 2-3 clinical a week. Plus lectures and studying in top of everything else.
The professors are great and encouraging. I haven't met one that won't set up meetings with you to help you or encourage you, go over your exam and see where you can improve, etc.

I'll be in Austin. Is anyone in Austin and would like to start a study group? Also, has anyone talked to someone else who graduated from this program. I am curious to know how it is since it's all online.
Hello! Did you start the program. How is it going? Also, how were your clinical placements?
organismdk said:Hello, yes I have been! Looking forward to starting soon. I don't know of a facebook group yet or anything for our cohort.
You are the first person I've come across, so I'm also unfamiliar with a facebook group for our cohort. I'm new to this site... are we able to privately message? I'm excited to start, as well, and would love to stay in touch!

Hi I just graduated in Aug and passed NCLEX :)
It was great for me. I did not work, and got all As and Bs. It was tough but you just have to put in the work. Clinical placements were all basically all 25 mins or less for me. I live in Austin. The placements were all Baylor Scott & White hospitals except my mental health rotations. BS&W were nice hospitals!

Congratulations! That is so exciting 🙂
That's good to know. Does the program have any clinical hours in geriatrics like in subacute or LTC? Or pediatrics?
Also this may be random, but do you know if anyone in your cohort tested for their license in California or was planning to endorse there? I can't find any information online and it would really help me be more confident.
Thanks
