Updated: Apr 24 Published Mar 1, 2022
Hey yall! I'm making this thread to post updates on interviews and job notifications for the Baylor Scott and White Nurse Residency in DFW.
Has anyone heard back from them following an interview?

I have not heard anything back yet. Not even an email. But, last rotation I applied for the Winter residency on accident thinking it was for the end of the year. They responded maybe two-three weeks later with locations that they still have available but I do not graduate until May.

Does anyone know if it is 3 shifts or 4 shifts a week for the residency programs? I cannot find any info.

That actually makes me feel better! I do not graduate until May as well. I am glad I am not the only one!

I have two friends working at Baylor facilities and know that it is 3 shifts a week for the residency. Either all three are with your preceptor or you have two 12-hour shifts with your preceptor and then 12-hours of online coursework/modules to be completed for the week. If somebody knows different please correct me LOL

For those who have interviewed already what should I expect, I am interviewing at the end of the month and wanted to just prepare ahead. Is it a panel interview?

Hey! I interviewed with the Trauma ICU at BUMC in Dallas. It was a really difficult interview to me. There were 4 nurse managers sitting around a table on one camera. They took turns asking me questions. They were all behavioral questions, but difficult for a student to answer. Definitely look for more difficult questions online like how you have taken leadership roles in specific patient care situations or how you have messed up at work and how your employer responded to you and how you made it right. You should also practice easier behavioral questions like how you have dealt with a difficult patient or coworkers and how you would be organized at work. I feel like most of my questions were specific and harder, but I have heard from a lot of students that the questions are easier for new grads and they were only asked questions about their strengths and weaknesses and why those chose nursing, etc. I am sure you will do great and good luck!

I don't know if you've had your interview yet, but it'll be a few people from management on the floor. Nurse manager, unit based educator, floor manager, etc. They'll ask you a series of behavioral questions, mine were quite difficult (I interviewed for the ICU). They even asked me behavioral questions about experiences I wouldn't have had as a student (exp: "tell us about a time based off of a patients lab values or other results, you were able to catch something before it happened or before diagnosis"), but I did the best with what I was asked. I ended up getting the offer from Neuro ICU a few days after the interview. Good luck! My advice: research your floor, and practice a ton of questions. They do simple questions like tell us about a difficult patient, or patient unhappy with the care provided, but they definitely threw in some very tough ones. When I was asked a question I didn't understand, I didn't pretend I knew what they were asking, I sought out further explanation. Remember, when telling them about yourself cater it to what they'll be looking for (hard worker, team player, etc. etc.)

Most of the time it’s 2-3 12 hr clinical shifts a week on the unit. Sometimes you may have education days on the weeks you only work 2 12 hr shifts. Will depend on your unit and location.
