  1. Yes, I ended up accepting the NICU job at Parkland because it was my #1 unit and too good of an opportunity to pass on given how competitive it is. I see you are from UTA? I am also from UTA so if you end up going to Parkland and wanna connect together as new grads just lemme know!
  2. Hey there, I completely understand the struggle you are having trying to decide between hospital quality vs specialty of passion and honestly it boils down to which one you want most. I personally have had loads of clinicals (OB and critical care) at Parkland and absolutely love the culture there, everybody is so friendly and willing to help you even if you are a stranger. They have amazing retentions, many of the staff I met have been there for years, even decades, and Parkland takes a lot of time teaching their new nurses (they are known to be a teaching facility) so they invest much training and knowledge and resources into you from multiple people I have heard from who finished their residencies there. The lead and sole new grad recruiter whom you email questions to undertakes many emails at once so I would just email her again expressing your concerns. She has been very good with me responding within 1-2 days. It really seems like your heart is in ED so I would take it! You will learn so much from the diverse patient population that Parkland has to offer. Why succumb yourself to a specialty that you have no passion in? Those two years will fly by and if you really want out of Parkland, you could always take your 2 years of experience in ED and apply to UTSW in the future. Hope this helps!
  3. I actually don’t have any experience in L&D but I did have a fair bit of my clinicals at Parkland!
  4. Yes, my friend and I received an email in order to sign up for the interviews that will be held in person next week. I did not sign up but wanted to let you know so you would not be waiting and anxious about it.
  5. Hey guys, I was offered a position in the NICU! I really never thought I would get it so I'm pretty stunned. There's a huge caveat though in that there's a 3 three contract on night shifts and Parkland is about 40 min commute from my house ? I have a labor and delivery offer at Baylor with no contract and it is 20 min from my house so I feel really lost on what to go for. I did clinicals in the NICU at Parkland and absolutely loved it but I was never able to have clinicals for labor and delivery so I do not know what I would be going into at Baylor... does anybody have any advice for me? I'm super stressed out!
  6. I have two friends working at Baylor facilities and know that it is 3 shifts a week for the residency. Either all three are with your preceptor or you have two 12-hour shifts with your preceptor and then 12-hours of online coursework/modules to be completed for the week. If somebody knows different please correct me LOL
  7. It is okay to still be hanging on by that 1% but I do think you should accept your other offer as a backup to sort of cushion you in case you do not hear back elsewhere. None of these agreements are bonded by a contract when you first accept, they are contingent meaning "subject to change". So you can always change your mind about them later!
  8. Honestly, the whole process just seemed really chaotic. When I had my initial pre-screening interview, the Fort Worth recruiter told me to cancel my interview with the Dallas recruiter because essentially they all use the same system and they can see what spots are available for all campuses. Regardless, I hope you land a job with one of those interviews, good luck!
  9. That must have been really frustrating, I did not know it could get that disorganized. The first recruiter that reached out to me was for Fort Worth. I had other recruiters from other locations/campuses reach out to me later even though I already had my initial interview. How many locations did you apply to?
  10. Hi! So if I remember correctly, I had my pre-screening interview with my recruiter around Feb 8 and she had me written down for a few women's services interviews and told me that Baylor follows a first-come-first-serve basis when it comes to acquiring interviews with your specialty. When did you have your pre-screening interview?
  11. Those questions sound really difficult and SO specific... I do not understand how new grads are expected to be so scripted or reheorificed for scenario questions like that, especially if someone does not have any prior healthcare experience. I'm so sorry you had to undergo that though ? If it makes you feel better, I did not feel so confident in one of my interviews with Baylor and felt like the panel was extremely selective but sure enough I got an offer letter so you never know what might happen!
  12. Hey guys, I just received an L&D offer from Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth!
  13. No I’m not a pre existing employee but Medical City in Irving is giving me $27.35 to start off. The recruiter told me that they abolished the biweekly stipends just over the Summer and the no longer do that anymore! Which is great news for us!
  14. I received an email! Hopefully all goes well, super stoked ?
  15. Just wanted to share with y’all that I have received an interview for the NICU! There were about 30 signup slots so I’m guessing that’s how many applicants were chosen. Hope this helps!
