Are there any new grads or RNs out there that have applied to Baylor's 2013 Winter internships? I thought I would start this so we can all share our tips, tricks and progress.
I applied to the Women's Services internship and was emailed a phone interview offer, scheduled for Tuesday!
I wanted your opinion though. Do you think you have a better chance at a job when you put "all your eggs in one basket" and make it clear that your heart is set on one area of nursing (ie. L&D, ER, ICU) or are you all applying for a whole bunch of areas of nursing and hoping for just whatever you get?
So, were any of you guys hired for NICU at BUMC? I graduated from nursing school in 2010 with my ADN and have been an RN/charge/preceptor on an ICU-step-down unit. I am working on my BSN and will graduate by March 2013. My goal is to be a NICU nurse. I applied for this position but it seems like things are moving really slowly. I had a phone interview a month ago but was told the manager won't interview experienced nurses for a couple of weeks. In the meantime I have received another offer, it isn't NICU but is an amazing opportunity. I just don't know if I should hold off for the NICU position when I haven't even had an in-person interview, but I am hesistant to accept a job when I feel so close to finally realizing my goal of becoming a NICU nurse.
If you are currently working somewhere, I would say wait for the NICU job.
If you are not work at the moment, then for income reasons, you should take the offer that u got and wait until u hear back from NICU.
If the offer for this other job is in the same hospital as where you're wanting the NICU job, then i would say definitely take the offer and then try to transfer to NICU.
Good luck!
just finished my interview with baylor irving critical care. I think it went pretty well, the manager said they had only 2 positions open and they've been interviewing since last week for the 2, so i'wll say its a close call. says to expect a call by next week end if I am chosen for the peer interview. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In the phone screen interview, some of the questions I was asked:
-Describe a time where you were highly stressed whether at work or in clinical situation
-Describe a time when you had a difficult patient
-Explain some of the exposure u had while in clinicals (like which floors, which units..which hospitals, etc.)
-Describe clinical experiences outside of your clinicals (I used to work at a hospital, which is why she may have asked me this)
-Describe a time you were a patient advocate and it ended positively
-If we were to do a background check on you, would this be a problem for you?
then she told me which positions were still open and where i had preference, and set up an interview right then with me.
