I am applying for the fastbacc program starting in May 2011 and curious if anyone has already gone through it. I don't see any threads about this program so I thought I would start one. I have an interview in 2 weeks and really nervous! Ive read the threads on nursing school interviews and am working on preparing but has anyone interviewed with Baylor specifically? What have your scores been for those that have been accepted? Do you know if it is a highly competitive program? I can get so much info about all the other Texas programs but this one doesnt seem to get much attention. Any info would be helpful!
Thanks!!!
Amanda
Also applying for May 2012 Fastbacc... not so confident about my chances to be honest! Pre-req GPA is about a 3.23, 91 cumulative on the HESI. I'm also applying to a CC program and feel more confident about my chances there (for their pre-reqs, I've got a 3.29 and HESI score of 95... dang Chemistry!!). Where are y'all in the admissions process? Any tips for interviews?
I don't think anything prepares you for the NCLEX. It is a test unlike any other one you will take in nursing school. That being said, everyone in our class passed the first try (there were 26 of us). Soooo you will undoubtedly walk out of the NCLEX thinking you have failed and almost certain it can't get any worse that it was and then find out you passed.
You really just have to be dedicated to learning everything you possibly can during that year. It is hard because most everyone is type A personality and so they are real intense and if you aren't like that (me) then you just have to do your own thing and ignore those that are freaking out about every little thing.
I didn't have trouble finding a job. It looks really good on your resume that you have a degree, went back, and finished a BSN in 1 year. I think most everyone in our class has a job too. Your internship you do at the end in March is a good source - some of our class got jobs from doing well and networking in their internship.
Any other questions?
I am finally finished applying to all my schools. I am really hoping to be accepted into Baylor's program. Does anyone have an idea of when they will send out decisions. Also if you have been in the program would you mind sharing what range of GPA's and HESI scores were among those accepted?
When I met with an advisor there, she told me the GPA of the fastbacc applicants who get in is around 3.5. I don't know an exact number for the HESI, but she said they focus mainly on the math & English portions and less on the sciences, since they understand that sometimes students take the HESI before finishing their pre-reqs. She said the timing of admissions decisions depended on a number of factors, but I got the feeling it would be around late December/early January. Where else did you apply?
Thanks for the advice! Have you applied to Baylor already? If so are you going to the FastBacc info session this weekend? I have also applied to A&M Fast Track and was told today I have been put on the wait list (so only a little hope there since its so much cheaper there are a lot more applicants. The other schools I applied to were OU, TCU, and UT HSC. My last choice is TCU since it is so expensive and had the lowest NCLEX pass rate out of the others I mentioned. Even though OU is out of state tuition it would still be cheaper.
Can anyone tell me what the interview was like? I have applied for the FastBacc program - May 2012, and finished all my pre-req's. GPA is 3.8, Science GPA 4.0 and HESI avg 94. This is the only school I am applying to since I dont have an option of moving anywhere else (new baby!) and cannot afford to be in school for more than a year. Will be really bummed if I dont get in this year!

Sorry, just seeing this now but yes I was there! I considered TCU also but honestly, I'm not sure I'll be able to afford Baylor if I get in. @ Ranibu: the interview was replaced by an information session, we were told they're ranking us based on overall pre-req GPA, science GPA, and HESI score... honestly, from what they said I think you're a shoe in! Congrats on the new baby :)

Hi to all.
I was actually looking through their website , and I noticed it said that their application deadlines are May for Spring and January for fall? How is it that you guys are still applying considering the deadline is passed? Maybe I may have read it wrong :) Any help is appreaciated.
