Barry's accelerated BSN Jan.'09

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello,

Anyone starting Barry's Accelerated BSN program in January, 2009 or have graduated or currently enrolled?

Thanks

Hey Doralmom

Wow, I'm taking him for lab too. He's goood so far. How did you study for his quizes and unknown exam?

By the way when are you graduating, if you already graduated how did it feel to be in the honors rows cause i want that. Did you apply to mdc-medical campus for nursing too?

My transcript say A.S cause i apply at Barry and MDC-Medical campus. If iI get accepted at Barry , I'll change it to A.A

The transcript i sent to Barry did not include the classes i'm taking this semester, what do you think I should do?

Hi Barbajo06,

For his quizzes, I just studied his lab and review notes on his web page. I also wrote everything down he put on the board because he doesn't use the lab book at all. The unknown was easy just make sure you understand what you're doing for the experiments. I was always the last one to leave class but it paid off because I got the highest score on the final in my class and an A in the class. Make sure you know how to do a perfect gram stain because if that's wrong everything else is wrong. He gives a flow chart that makes it easy to understand the first unknown.

I graduated this past summer with my AA, and it felt good to see Associate in Arts degree with highest honors on my transcript. My major was also for AS but once you complete all of the required classes for AA it automatically will award you the AA because I never changed my mine.

I didn't apply to MDC nursing program because I figured for the same amount of time(4 semesters) why not go for the BSN. Then it came down to Barry and FIU. I chose Barry over FIU because I am able to start in the Spring of '09 instead of summer '09 and Barry gave me a more signifcant amount of free money.

When you sent your transcripts, were you regiestered for classes? If so, the classes will appear on your transcripts that were sent to Barry. If not, you should contact your admissions counselor at Barry and also send an updated transcript.

Good Luck!

wow looks like we have a lot in common. I love graduating with honors, I even graduated in high school with honors.

I also wanted to apply at FIU but they start in the summer. I really want to go to Barry because it only takes one year to get your Bachelor instead of spending two year at MDC-Medical campus to get an A.S then go to aa univerity to get a bachelor. no way!

I was thinking about sending another transcript but i don't know if it's too late to send it cause they will send the letter of acceptance to the program this month.

Hi nurismydream,

Don't freak out. I think it is only a writing test, maybe vocab and basic math, and a HIPPA test. They send you the material to read on HIPPA via Blackboard before orientation.

We'll be fine.

How do you know so much about the program?

God Bless,

NUR

Hi barbajo06,

You will still have to send an updated transcript to Barry once you get your grades for this semester.

Did you take a religion class at MDC? For Barry you need a theology, biomedical ethics. In order to graduate from Barry you need to have at least 48 upper lever credits(300/3000 level) 40 of them nursing credis, so you would have to take maybe 3 upper divison classes, which could include theology, biomedical ethics, and a humanities/art (if you haven't taken these courses at MDC).

My admissiosns couselor didn't tell me I had to take 3 upper divison classes, I was only informed of the biomedical ethics since MDC didn't offer this class because it is only taught at universities.

I kept calling my admissions counselor checking on my application status. She knew I was serious about Barry and she informed me of my acceptance the day it was improved(weeks befor I received my letter).

Have you been accepted to Barry, the university yet? Because you have to be accepted to Barry first before the application goes to the SON.

Hi nurismydream,

I am currently enrolled at Barry finishing up my pre reqs and in two of my classes, there are some nursing students and I ask them questions. I also have a friend from MDC that just started this semster the two year option, which is only one semester longer than the accelerated option.:)

Hi nurismydream,

I am taking a humanities(HUM 303), history of florida(HIS 315),Biomedical ethics(PHI 353) and a computer class(CAT 102). I only needed to take the first three classes but I took the computer class just to be considered full time, so that I could get my full scholarship and grants because if I wasn't full time this semester it would affect my financial aid for next semester, when I would need it the most. I am taking biomedical ethics online with Dr. Erwin and he is awesome.

Specializes in NICU.

Hi!

I graduated from the AO program in May 2008. First of all, don't worry about the test you take at orientation...its easy and it doesn't mean a thing! I promise!

If it's the same way I had it, you will have Health assessment and Lab, patho. I, pharm. I, and Medical calculations your first semester. You'll be fine...Patho. and Pharm. was the toughest class for everyone, and the lady who we had, Dr. Hacker no longer works at Barry. I heard the new professor was much easier.

Good Luck! It goes by really FAST!!! Make sure to have fun and celebrate alot with your class...its the only way to forget about all the stress.:nurse:

P.S. Dr. Neely-Smith is awsome!

I didn't take theology or biomedical ethics. I did get accepted to the university. I was going to take those classes at barry but my counselor told me that i have to be accepted in the nursing program also. I hope I can take them for fall B term. I'm waiting anxiouly for that letter, I really want to be at Barry but if that's not God's will, there's nothing i can do but to move on to the next school

Hi doralmom

I have a question, do you think it's possble to get financial aid at two schools. I have financial aid at mdc and Baryy stiil working on my financial aid. i'm not a full time student this semester at mdc, do you think that could affect my scholarship and my financial aid?
