Barry University SCRNA 2021

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to see who all is applying for Barry University SCRNA program for 2021! Anyone have interviews yet? I have one scheduled in 2 weeks!

Any current/prior students with advice on this program?

@Nurseyj Hello! I'm in Estiles' cohort. When I interviewed, I had just shy of one year of experience in the ICU and spent a year in the PACU prior to ICU when I was a new grad. I know multiple nurses had similar stories of 1-3 years of ICU experience. That being said, those I know with limited experience did come from strong level 1 academic medical centers, myself included!

IDK if there is any preference for a specific ICU. Traditionally CVICU, MICU, and SICU are most common. However, we do have one student from the ER, one from the NICU I believe, as well as a few from PICU. Barry doesn't really discriminate based on the unit as long as there is critical care experience in your resume.

@avt829 thanks for your kind reply!

I currently work at level 2 CVICU....

Is level 1 is important factor to get in??

@Nurseyj I wouldn't think so. I'm sure many of my colleagues weren't at level 1 centers. I can only speak to those I have interacted with thus far through the virtual classes LOL, but since I had the minimum amount of experience I think factors like that just helped to affirm what they might look for.

To back up what @avt829 said, I only had 2 years of PICU and 2 years of PACU and my PICU wasn't recent, I was in the PACU for a year when I applied! I also had a pretty low GRE and was accepted with provisions of pending chem and higher GRE in the 30th percentile! So you guys with low GRE, don't give up or lose hope! I am in and I was literally on the bottom of the todem pole!

@estiles, did you do Barry's into to Anesthesia course before you were given admission with low GRE?

@estiles, did you do Barry's introduction to Anesthesia before being admitted?

Did you get waitlisted pending scoring higher on the GRE and when did you hear back? Also what did you score second time around if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks in advance!

No! I actually took the class AFTER I was accepted with provisions! So yes I did take the class, but I was accepted in August 2019 and took the class Jan 2020!

I was accepted in August! I had my interview in July! I actually was the first person to interview in our entire cohort! Also, I was never waitlisted. I was accepted with provisions! I had to pay the deposit and everything. So I was accepted just had to turn everything in before a certain date! My scores second time around were literally the 30th percentile for both. So 149 V and 148 Q. Honestly, I know a good amount of people who didn't have crazy GRE scores. I don't think they focus heavily on it but it would deff make your applications look great!

Good for you! I’m honestly getting slightly discouraged because I interviewed months ago (I believe one of the first as well) and got waitlisted -waiting on gre to go past 30 percentile as well which I did and submitted. Also already took the anesthesia course 2 years back and orgo this year with A’s in both, so I’m not sure what else I could do from here on out. I was told I may not know until April for a response but I’m hoping I can hear back sooner. Although your situation/scenario is encouraging!

Hey guys!

Was checking my voicemails this morning and realized I missed a call from the program Friday.  They had called to offer an interview! Weird how they didn't send an email.
