Barry University January 2011

Published

Has anyone already gotten accepted for January 2011 at Barry? If so how was the interview process? How long did it take to be notified of an interview after all documentation was submitted? How long did it take for you to be notified re: admit decision after your interview? Also can you share your stats like GRE, GPA and work experience. Thanks!

Anyone currently applying to Barry?

To Gaspasser:

I'm more nervous now than ever! The staff was very nice, but during my interview I was so nervous that I think I just rambled on and on. I hope they were able to pull some corherent thoughts out of what I saying. Did you get your quiz score? I didn't ask and they didn't tell me.

About ANE 695. It's OK, it's just pre-recorded lectures on power point slides, then quizes from the material. There's no interaction from the staff or other students. I felt like for 2400 dollars I should have gotten more out of it. The math and physics portions are really easy. The clinical review was nice, but not too challenging. My favorite parts were re pharmacology and how anesthetics work. I haven't taken the final yet, but the quizzes were all pretty easy (considering that I refered to my notes while taking them).

I'll let you know when I hear anything.

Mnurse:

Thanks for the inside scoop on the transition course. I did not ask about my quiz nor was I told anything about it. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not... some were told they did not do well on some portions some I'm HOPING that if they did not mention it that we did at least ok on it. I'm with you on the nervous part. I had a whole game plan going into the interview and thought I was well prepared, but once you're in there it's a different story. Hopefully we will hear something soon! I will keep you posted on anything I hear.

I also had the interview on the 19th. I was told I did well on the chem. I am not surprised since chem, math and physics are my fav, and in that order. During the interview, to me it seemed like I asked them more questions than they did, which worries me. Not only that, by the end of the interview, I felt I was speaking gibberish and that too at 150 words/sec! I swear I started slow and somehow ended up in a 'Shinkansen'! LOL

At the end of the interview, I did let them know that my "extremities" were cold . hahaha

They still continue to be...guess until I hear from them again...one way or the other!

How was the quiz? What was covered? How many questions? How much time? Before or after the interview?

Nurse_ane:

Which one were you at the interview? I was there too... out of the two guys there I was the one at the head of the table.

ane 695 - that is so funny! I felt like I was talking way too fast also. It sounds like you established a good rapport though. Do you have a chemistry background? I loved chemistry and lab when I was in school, but chemistry did not like me.

jrv 100 - the quiz was 20 or 25 questions, I don't remember. We had 10 minutes. It was multiple choice. The clinical part was not as tricky as I anticipated, there was no drug math or doses, etc. The chemistry part was like what was mentioned earlier, name this equation, what kind of bond. I don't remember much else. I think I blacked out.

Jrv100: I found the quiz bearable. It mainly had 3/4th of basic organic chemistry and 1/4th of basic critical care questions. The quiz was right after the power point presentation/ orientation, and before the one to one interview process. The quiz had 25 questions to be completed within 10 minutes. The faculty members put you at ease before the test ...atleast try their best. They are really nice. I really liked them. Found them very honest, enthusiastic and sincere.

The test is just to assess where we stood in terms of basic chem and critical care nursing knowledge. Not sure how well this test evaluates us...especially when the blood is rushing to your face, heart is pounding, hands are going numb, and eyes are getting blurry!!!LOL

Quiz covered questions on Nomenclature, Type of reaction, Type of bond etc. If you go over organic chem concepts and some practice questions that are available online, that should be sufficient I think. That is what I did!

Wish you good luck. I am still waiting to hear from them...keeping fingers, hands, legs all crossed at the moment!

I just found out I got accepted to Barry University class of 2013!! I can't wait!

Specializes in Anesthesia.

Congrats GasPasser!!!!!

hey gaspasser 123,

Congratulation on being accepted. I was wondering how you received your answer, did they call you or send you an email or letter? I am just curious.

I accidently found out. I went into my "MyBarry" account and under the admission status section it said Congratulions you have been accepted into the Barry University Masters of Science in Anesthesiology program. I called and made sure this was accurate and it was confirmed. So try checking that if you haven't gotten anything else.

Thanks ShandsburnRN!! I am so excited to start!
