Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Has anyone already gotten accepted for January 2011 at Barry? If so how was the interview process? How long did it take to be notified of an interview after all documentation was submitted? How long did it take for you to be notified re: admit decision after your interview? Also can you share your stats like GRE, GPA and work experience. Thanks!

Anyone currently applying to Barry?

Hi Shandsburnrn-srna

Thank you for your answer.it is really informative. I am getting an interview with Barry University next April 19th. I really want to go to this school.Anyway, I was wondering how are the classes. Are the teachers pretty available if you have to ask a question? Are the class online classes? How was your first semester? Is there anything that you wish you've done to be better prepared? When you said that basically everybody that got interviewed got accepted, did you then saw back everybody that you interviewed with in class? I heard also that there is a 2 week intensive class on campus at the beginning of the program. What do you do during those 2 weeks? You got a lot of cases is that typical with the program? what do you like about your clinical site?Sorry I have so many questions but I am really excited already that I got an interview. Thank in advance for answering.:lol2:

Milk, I have an interview on April 19th as well. Which campus are you going to attend if you are accepted? Miami, Orlando, Gainesville, etc. ?? Have you applied to any other schools? I am so excited for the interview, but nervous at the same time.

Shandsburn,

Thank you very much for your replies. They have been extremely helpful and informational. Barry has been my top choice for anesthesia schools and hearing you talk about the program makes me super excited to be an SRNA. I hope Barry accepts me!

shandsburnrn,

Thank you so much for your thorough answers. They have been really helpful. Now, I have a better ideas of what to expect and hopefully, I will be able to see you and ask you question at the end of the 2 weeks if I am accepted!:yeah:. I was wondering also, while you were in the program did you had the opprtunity to go to AANA conference or to participate in any FANA event? Do you think it is feasible to be active in those association while being in school?

Gaspasser123,

Congrats on having an interview on April 19th. I guess we will see each other over there eventhough I won't know who you are!:lol2:. I would love to attend the Miami campus but shandsburnrn almost convince me that Ocala/Gainesville seems to be a pretty good campus. What about you which campus would you prefer to go? Did you apply to any other school? Are you from Florida? I am also myself really excited and honored to have an Interview at Barry. I have applied to University of New England and I have an interview on April 7th. I applied to Wolford College and Case Western, unfortunately Case is full! :crying2:. I am ok with that though since I really want to go to Barry. I also applied to St Joseph Hospital school of Anesthesia for Nurses and was accepted there, but I would really prefer to go to Barry! Let's try to keep in touched since we might be classmate, hopefully!:uhoh3:

MilkAmnesia,

I live in Orlando and my whole family is here so I will attend the Orlando campus. It is a great campus, clinicals are with Orlando Health which has several facilities in the Orlando area associated with it: Orlando Regional Medical Center is a level one trauma center, Winnie Palmer is a huge hospital for women and babies (tons of epidural experience), Arnold Palmer Hospital is another big pediatric hospital right next to Winnie. I know a few people in the program right now at the Orlando site and a couple that have graduated from Barry and they all loved the Orlando site. I do not know much about the Miami site because I am a little Bias toward Orlando. Where are you from?

Specializes in Anesthesia.

Milkamnesia,

Yes I have been able to attend the FANA conferences while in school. They encourage it actually. I am the student rep for my class here in Ocala, all the reps can go to the FANA conferences with your room and admission to the conference paid for by Barry....you pay up front and then send your reciepts to the office and they reimburse you.

They also invite you to the AANA conferences and will cover some of the expense for that. I was invited to go this past year, but was unable to. But from my classmates that did go, it sounded like a great time.

Gaspasser123,

I am living in Cleveland, OH right now but I would like to attend the Miami campus because I have a "significant other" that live there!

Shandsburnrn-SRNA,

Thank you for your reply. This is great. I am planning on being really active in those association, so it is great that they encourage you to be part of them!

Milkamnesia,

I see why you would like to attend the main campus. It is nice to have a support system other than your classmates. I wish some other Barry applicants would visit this thread lol. Its kinda cool being able to chat with people who share your same interests and goals.

Have any of you heard about the Tampa location? I'm currently living in Gainesville and while it's a great city with plenty of areas of clinical expertise, I think I would like a change of setting for my graduate studies, particularly one near the beach (even though I will never have time to go!). I have no ties whatsoever to any particular location, but am ready for a change.

ShandsburnRN- I actually work for the VA hospital across the street, but have met many wonderful CRNAs there who have been very encouraging and helpful in this process.

You guys who are having your interviews on April 19th will have to let the rest of us know how they go! Good Luck to you all! :)

GatorRN:

I do not know very much about the Tampa location, but I can tell you that the hospitals you would do clinical at are not Level one Trauma Centers like you would have at the Gainesville (Shands), Orlando (Orlando Regional Medical Center), and Miami (Broward General) locations. Tampa does have a great level one trauma center (Tampa General), but from what I understand and what the Barry website says, that is not a clinical site. Have you thought about the Orlando location? ORMC is a great hospital. Hopefully you will get an interview soon. I will definitely let everyone know how it goes when mine is over. I'm so nervous... 11 more days!

GatorRN:

St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa (a Barry clinical location) is a level 2 Trauma center.

GasPasser123 - Thank you for that information, I honestly did not even realize that Tampa General was not one of the listed sites. I have considered all the options and Orlando also seems like a great place, and I would probably prefer it over Gainesville or Miami. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) know if there is any additional support if we were to choose the Barry campus for our site? I am just curious as to if there is a difference in the distance learning or if it's all equivalent.

If I get admitted, I'm really not sure which clinical sites to choose. I'm also interested in Sarasota and the Miami locations. Shandsburnrn please help!!!! Could you give a synopsis of pros and cons as to the various sites? Do all of the sites have teleconferencing?
