Has anyone already gotten accepted for January 2011 at Barry? If so how was the interview process? How long did it take to be notified of an interview after all documentation was submitted? How long did it take for you to be notified re: admit decision after your interview? Also can you share your stats like GRE, GPA and work experience. Thanks!

Anyone currently applying to Barry?

Good luck on your interview on the 19th Gaspasser! There are several of us that are still waiting to hear re: the next interview date late May/early June. Would you mind sharing your stats...gpa gre breakdown and experience? Thanks!!

GatorRN:

From what I've heard, you get awesome support at ALL locations. As far as questions, etc. email is the best way and obviously that can be accomplished from anywhere. I think the teleconference lectures that you get at the satellite sites is interactive, so you can ask questions and all of that.

JRV100:

Not a great GRE score: 1020. Verbal=380, Quan=640. 3.7 GPA, 2 years experience in a Vascular/Thoracic ICU (surgical ICU). CCRN cert.

Is there anyone else that has applied or is applying to Barry??

Specializes in ICU.

I had applied to Barry and it was one of my top choices for a crna program. I was offered an interview and was scheduled for April 19th. However, in the meantime, I interviewed and was accepted to my top choice: University of Pittsburgh, so I cancelled my interview at Barry. Good luck to everyone in their interviews!

ICUguitarRN:

Congrats on your acceptance at Pitt. Do you mind sharing with us your stats? GRE score, GPA, experience, certifications... When does that program start? This fall or next Spring? Good luck with everything

Specializes in ICU.

GasPasser123-

Thanks! I am not the usual candidate: I have a previous BA in Psychology, GPA 2.4 (I was young, partied alot & didn't really know what I wanted to do), ADN GPA 2.8 (did enough to get by and really had no thoughts of EVER going back to school). Right out of nursing school and into an ICU. 12 1/2 years of ICU experience (MICU, CVICU, & SICU) most of which has been in larger university teaching hospitals. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to be a crna. Went back and got my BSN after being out of school for over 10 yrs and got a 4.0 gpa. GRE 1300. I knew I really had to compensate for my previous gpa. I've retaken A&P and chem classes that were way more than 10years old and got A's in all of those classes as well. I got my CCRN last year. I have also been PICC certified for the last 4 years.

Pitt's program allows you to start in the fall or spring, you get to chose. I'm starting in the spring, because they let you take some classes early before starting the program full-time. So I'm taking some classes in the fall to lighten my load for once I'm in the program full-time.

ICUguitarRN:

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said you aren't the usual candidate. Good for you on having the will to go back to school after all those years and then Aceing everything. I think that's smart to take the Spring admission and get some classes done early. From what I've heard the first semester is extremely difficult in CRNA school. I plan on doing the same thing. Good luck to you on your journey of anesthesia school.

I also have an interview on Monday, apr 19th. I want to throw up thinking about it. I don't have my CCRN, so I've trying to study practice questions to get ready for the quiz. I'm taking ANE 695 now and amy reviewing those notes. I've been in ICU for almost a year now and got 1130 on my GRE. Any advice/info?

mnurse:

I am taking the ANE695 course in the summer term. How do you like the course? Is it just chemistry or does it have some other, anesthesia related, aspects incorporated into it such as pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc? What kind of ICU do you work in now? Congrats on the interview, I will see you there on Monday.

I made it to Miami! I drove by the campus to get by bearings. I was suprised by the traffic on a rainy, Sunday afternoon. See some of you tomorrow! Good luck.

Good luck to everyone who is interviewing tomorrow!!!!! Be confident, humble and show your desire and readiness to be in the program....time commitment, finances etc. Dress professionally!!!!! Let the rest of us that are still waiting to be called for May?June interviews how it went. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, my interview is over. I think everything went well, but it is really hard to read the faculty when they are interviewing you. The interview was very laid back; they did not grill me at all nor make me feel like I was being interrogated. There was about 12-13 of us there. They started with a presentation about the financial aid. The program director then came and spoke with us about how rigorous the program was and that we would be getting an excellent education at Barry University, etc. He was very nice. There was also a student from the 2011 class that told us a little bit about her experiences. Then, they took us in individually for our interviews. Mine was about 5 minutes long. They knew I was from a vascular/thoracic ICU so they gave me a clinical scenario involving a post-op thoracotomy patient. After your interview is over you are free to leave.
