Barry CRNA Starting 2018

Published

Hello all! I just thought I would start a thread for those of us applying. I have started my application and I am working on my personal statement now. How are you all doing?

I have taken the GRE and passed my CCRN. I still need to get my PALS. I also need to ask for my letters of recommendation and send in my school transcripts & GRE scores. I'm going to try to apply for the Tampa campus.

I just got the email on March 15th stating that my application is being reviewed. I really hope to get a call soon. Does anyone know if they will still invite you for an interview even if your profile is not 100% complete? I attached a letter to my application to tell them that I plan to take a chemistry course during the summer but registration doesn't open until next month. I just hope this is adequate.

Hi all - I received an email March 9 stating my application was being reviewed. Does anyone know if it's a bad sign if I haven't gotten a call for an interview yet? Sorry to sound negative, I'm just so anxious :shy:

When I interviewed last March I was in the process of completing a course. So yes, you can be interviewed while still completing requirements.

Its been 5 business days. There are like 2-3 people that go through everyone's info, this stuff takes tons of time. Not to mention all the other current students they have to handle information for. If you get into the program you will gain a deep appreciation for a certain administrative staff member that does a literal ton of work.

Does anyone know when the next set of interviews is supposed to be? I've already gotten rejection letters from two of the local programs (not from FL) that I applied to. I'm beginning to feel some discouragement.

I called the school yesterday. I was told they didn't know yet. :(

Next interviews are April 21st and 27th.

Just a heads up, one of the main coordinators was out on official leave/business for like 4-5 days so they may be slightly behind right now.

Also, undoubtedly some of you reading this will get in. So, a few tips that I wish I had been told....

Like I said before, everyone in the entire class has come from different backgrounds, and all over the US, but mostly from Florida. Adult, peds, flight, ER, etc. as far as types of experience. But, there's a reason ICU is preferred...you need to know your basics.

If you get in, and you want to be slightly ahead of the curve, do these things....

Know your receptors! Alpha, beta, dopamine, where epi, norepi, etc. exert.

Know vent settings/mechanics! TV, PEEP, FI02, SIMV, PS, PC, PRVC, etc.

Talk to your RT, have them teach you things.

If you want to really up the game pick up a small pathophys book and read it when you have down time, this is probably overkill but at least you'll recognize terms when you start.

If you really really want to nerd out in your down time then pick up morgan and Mikhail anesthesia. Just read it for fun, it can be interesting and is a much much easier read than the other books.

Have your finances in order, have your relationships in order, practice good time management, etc. Make sure you have a good light weight laptop and a decent printer, you'll be using those a lot.

You rock

Thanks for all the info!!! It's greatly appreciated. Praying for an interview...

Has anyone who interviewed heard anything lately? I got the email last week that we'd find out early this week...

I got that email too but no letter yet. I figured they probably sent them out Monday or Tuesday and it'll take 2-3 days to arrive so by the end of the week we should know.

I got in! Just got a call saying they were running behind sending out letters and wanted to call everyone with the results.
