Hi everyone! Just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the CRNA program at Barry University starting January 2016! Comments, Questions, Concerns, Advice...
Also, is anyone in Miami interested in starting a GRE study group?
This thread has been super helpful. Congrats to everyone that has gotten in!!
I'm going to apply for Spring 2017. Just took my GRE, got 155 verbal 158 math. Don't know essay score yet. Taking CCRN in 3 weeks. GPA 3.75. 1.25 years (so 2.5 by the time I start, if admitted) Neuro ICU experience at Level 1 Trauma center...but we get a lot of overflow MICU patients. So far Barry sounds amazing! Hope I get in! The only other thing I need to do is re-take Chem 1, since I took it in 2010...ugh! Did any of you guys just take it at a community college? I'm thinking that's what I'll have to do, I've heard their course is a bit pricey?! Did anyone here take their refresher course?
@ICUNole
Your stats look great! Don't forget to shadow a crna if you haven't already. Also, if you can, I would suggest taking another chem besides chem 1. For example, I took an intro to organic Chem and biochem course that was a higher level than gen chem, but not as tough as full blown Organic. Community college would be completely acceptable. I wouldn't take Barry's course unless you are only applying to Barry because it doesn't transfer. I have classmates that took it, however, and they all said it was a very good class!
Congrats to everyone else! I just started the third semester. This semester we have class all day Monday and then clinicals the rest of the week which adds up to 40+ hours per week. The hours are tough but it's so cool when you get your rhythm and skills down. If anyone has any questions about the program let me know!
So, you guys start Monday?! YAY! I was e-mailed by Barry after I finished my app in December and was told they will review apps this month and hopefully have their first round of interviews February. Still waiting to hear back from USF, but don't think I will get in as they've told me they're waiting to finish more interviews this month before making a decision on me (and they've already accepted students). So, I'm thinking Barry may be where I end up?! We'll find out soon?!
Did any of you guys complete the head-start courses? I'm pretty interested in it as it will make life easier when school starts and I can have my employer reimburse the tuition Also, anybody starting/know someone starting at the Tampa location? Would love to pick your brains on some info regarding Barry's program and the interview process! Thank you everyone, and good luck on Monday! Hope your orientation went/goes well!!
@icunole
i did the head start (Chem/physics for anesthesia and the professional aspects class). Would highly recommend doing these if you can (or at least the Chem because its very time consuming). We started Jan.10th so we're almost 1 month in :) I am attending the Hollywood campus.
I reiderate what other people/ other Barry interview strings have posted: it was really laid back, no clinical questions, just a general get-to-know you. I walked out thinking: "that's what I was so stressed about??" :) The faculty are very nice and are not there to intimidate you.
There is a 20 question written exam with ccrn type questions and Chem questions ie. half life, what is the universal solvent.. Some molecular formula stuff which I attempted educated guesses on - had been a while since my last Chem class. I'm not sure how much or even if this affected our acceptance. I never saw my grade.
The interview day you also have the opportunity to meet a current student who answers any questions.
good luck!
Hey RNKay I am currently trying to get myself equipped to go to CRNA school , I read somewhere you had taken your CCRN during your one year experience , Does that mean I can take it before 1 Year? Ill have one year of experience in June do you know around what time I can take the CCRN? or around what time you took that way I can have an idea ?
