Is this a fair pay rate for Florida?!
I was offered 31.50 as ER nurse with 5 years ER experience and 1.5 years of Intermediate care experience. I thought that was low and I have my MSN. Didnt take the job. Happy about it but tried negotiating and was turned down completely. I was making 36.50 in Wisconsin.

Nurse Pract. in Florida 2015
I went through contract with fine tooth comb. I choose not to take it only because some major concern over pay, hours and most of all if you hate your job you are stuck there for 2 years or get a 104 fine.

Moving Florida ARNP
It's crazy to think I can't prescribe cough syrup for someone with an aweful cough. Ugh Florida. I guess it will be nice to tell patients I simply cant. The license wasn't to bad. Except I had to keep calling Florida depth of licensing and they lost a few of my forms. Thanks for the pay advice. I was offered a job at 70k and declined. Thought it was crazy low.

Nurse Pract. in Florida 2015
Jwalla20. I am relocating from WI with experience. I was wondering your experience with relocating and finding an NP job? Did you take a position with Tampa Family Health? I have an offer but am tied up in the logistics of the contract especially the $10000 fine to leave early and the 90 day notice along with the lower pay. I would love to know your experience finding a job. I have applied to at least 20 and am not getting many calls. I already attained florida ARNP license and have been practicing for almost a year in employee health/acute care.

Moving Florida ARNP
Hi Everyone, My family and I will be moving to Florida in the next couple of months since my husband was admitted into CRNA school. I am currently practicing as APNP in wisconsin and am having a hard time with the Florida license. Its seems intense. Where do you get fingerprinting done if you dont want to pay $300 dollars and are not in florida? What is average pay for APNP in Florida? Any advice?

safety
since posting this last night I am not suprised we actually had a shooter with a gun show up to finish off a rival gang member who was shot in the head. Waiting room went crazy, our elderly people litteraly got trampled, many of those waiting left without being seen. Our hospital is a joke because this morning we were told that they follow all the policies and proceedures that dont exist!!! We simply called 911. Our security gaurds are 60-70yrs old retired police and I could run further than them. That is our only safety at our triage desk. Thinking of calling media because other ERs in our city have sheriffs with riffles at the desk and bullet proff glass.

safety
Its not just that but then he really did come in and bc he didnt have a gun we were told we had to see him. Ha oh well. The hospital I work at now has really bad safety practices in place and we are an inner city hospital where I am sure a good number have a gun on them. We were looking at ways to improve the safety for staff because there is an increase in violence and management has also told RNs to stop reporting incidents on our computer reporting system bc Jcaho will see them.

St. Mary's Milwaukee
I work at CSM and our pool RNs get paid 34 per hour. I have been a nurse for 3 yrs and am making $28 on days with no differential. We have had A LOT of RNs come to work for us from other facilities bc pay is less at froedtert and aurora. Wheaton pays well in MKE as well as my husband makes as much as me and has been a RN a year less.

safety
I am just curious what measures your hospitals have in place to keep you as RNs safe? Bullet prof glass, sheriffs, extra security at bedside for disruptive/abusive pts etc. Also what happens if you were to get a call about a shooter coming to gun down ER staff, what does hospital, departmental, management do?

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) - School of Nursing
So I did not personally go to MSOE but my husband did and had a LOVE/HATE relationship with it. You are right that the course work there is much more difficult than probably any other school (husband hated) however if you are looking for more diverse clinical experiences with critical care rotations this is the place for you (husband loved) His entire last year of school he was in various ICUs in Milwaukee hospitals and was hired into an ICU as a new grad because of MSOEs tough program and emphasis on critical care. He loved his teachers for the most part and liked how his graduating class was only 35ppl. He knew everyone in his program and built re pour with teachers which you made need if you want letters of recommendation. As for financial aid he was able to get i believe 8000 off tuition for his gpa that he transferred in with and other loan things. Any private is going to be more expensive but I think his tuition was about 15 grand a year. Also trimesters Sept-mid Nov, End Nov-End Feb, March-Mid may. By having trimesters that is an extra clinical rotation you get over other schools.

NO RN JOBS IN MILW
I am actually back in school for my masters and we had a discussion the other day about this with one of our instructors who is a bigwig at one of the major hospitals. Apparently all the hospitals in MKE are looking to hire BSN prepared nurses and are going to start phasing out ADNs. Just a heads up if thats what you have I can see how it would be harder to find a job and if you have no experience and are BSN good luck as well. There are so many nursing schools in milwaukee the hospitals around here have their choice of the creme of the crop graduates.

Feeling Bullied By A Preceptor
I dont think your preceptor was givin general answers with time management or seeing the big picture. We dont learn this in nursing coming out school so its a HUGE problem and learning curve. Seeing th ebig picture you need to be able to think ahead of whats happening. For example your patient has become stable there have been no new orders what are the mds plan? discharge to home? are they going to need subacute care? how about the meds they are on what are new or what kind of teaching do i need to begin doing today so they are ready to go when the orders are written. I too was bulied by my preceptor who eventally did get fired for her poor behavior towards staff. Keep your head up. Take to heart though the things they told you to improve upon and really really work hard at them. You can do it.
