Barry CRNA Starting 2016

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi everyone! Just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the CRNA program at Barry University starting January 2016! Comments, Questions, Concerns, Advice...

Also, is anyone in Miami interested in starting a GRE study group?

Completed and sent in my application already. Hoping I get called for an interview.

Jowa,

You are on the ball! I am so behind! I have a lot to do before May. Good luck to you.

Has anyone received an interview offer for Spring 2016 yet? I am studying for the GRE now using the ETS book I purchased. I am having a hard time studying for the Quantitative portion of the test. Does anyone have any advice on how to get through this test section? I tried studying last night and I fell asleep after one question. I am open to all suggestions.

GaMommy,

Thanks much. I got called on Wednesday for an interview taking place on the 4th of March . For the GRE, I used the Magoosh app and found it very helpful.

Awesome sauce! I wish you lots of luck. Are you located in Florida? Do you know which clinical site(s) you are interested in? Keep us posted.

jowa202,

Do you mind sharing your stats? Just a little worried about my GRE score. A little on the low side. Thinking about retaking it. Congrats on getting an interview!!!í ½í±

Congrats Jowa!! Let us know how it goes!

I am super behind on my application too GaMommy! Taking the GRE mid March and CCRN this month.

I have been using Magoosh for GRE prep, I really like it but I guess we'll see how much it really helps when I see my scores!

My first choice for clinical site is Miami/Broward. What about everyone else?

Hey RNKay,

I am trying to work up the nerve to take the CCRN this month. I am so afraid that I won't pass. I think that what I will do this week is set up specific time for me to do deep study sessions just to make sure I am covering all of the material. I am going to try out Magoosh. Is it just verbal help or does it also include math? I think that my first choice for clinical is Orlando and then secondly Ocala/Gainesville. I am nervous about this whole process. I am glad that I have this outlet to discuss my challenges and progress with other people. Good luck to everybody. Keep us posted.

If the avatar didn't give it away, my first choice is Orlando. Does anyone know if any of the locations have CRNA-only clinicals?

Lol. PlurazisesStuffs I never looked at the Avatar closely. When I looked at the website the clinical sites listed are either hospitals or surgery centers with a mix of CRNAS and anesthesiologists.

Hey everyone! I really used this app a lot for advice when I was applying at Barry. I started this year and love it so far! If anyone wants to know anything feel free to ask! (I'll try to answer in between study breaks)

CCRNCMC11 congratulations on starting CRNA school! I really appreciate your time and willingness to share knowledge and pay it forward to someone like me who you haven't ever met.

The way I understand the website, the overall attrition (not counting held back a year” as attrited) has been 17%, 27%, 13%, 20%, 26% for '09-'13 or ~20%. That puts them at the 90th percentile per the 2008 AANA article. I didn't used to care because I'm determined to put the work in and pass. That's kinda changed since I read where a CRNA said his program failed a student or two every semester kinda like human sacrifice for a bountiful harvest. The way he described clinical instructors made me think twice about attrition. Some students would make unsafe CRNAs and ought to be failed. I just want a program that cultivates students, not one that hands out degrees or weeds out students.

So based on your knowledge, why do most people drop out? Are the instructors clear about expectations? Are tests hard, but fair, or do things pop up out of left field? Are instructors approachable? Do they give a crap about the students? Is there a specific semester where students fail out more? How much does the Head-Start program help students? Are there clinical sites that have a reputation of failing more or fewer students?

Thanks in advance :)
