Baptist School Of Health Professions- Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone,

I know it's early!! But, I applied for the Fall of 2016 and was wondering if anyone else had also applied? What is your GPA? How is the TEAS test?

@mcugetatme oh ok! Yeah I'm going to try and take those in July. The only ones I have are the psychology, and composition. I took an ethics class but it wasn't the one for health professions :/

Oh dang :( I wonder if medical ethics is even available at the community college level? @ashleynt

Where did you take lifespan?

@mcugetatme I know I couldn't find it anywhere in the Alamo colleges :/ and I took it online and made an A! Mrs. Sally Hoppstetter I think was her name and it was through Alamo colleges! Super easy and she is excellent at giving feedback! Who did you take sociology and algebra with? I'm thinking of doing those classes online pretty soon

Thanks!! I'll look into her :) I actually took them at UTSA.. I'm a junior here @ashleynt

@Ashleynt:

If you have questions after class or during breaks in the day you can ask the professors. You can also meet them after class if you have questions. During clinicals at the hospitals you'll be assessed individually for specific skills and be able to ask your clinical instructor questions as needed. Before going to the hospital you'll have a couple weeks of lab instead of clinicals where you're trained on specific tasks and individually assessed by instructors.

We had a few group presentations and group work. A majority of the instruction is powerpoint and lecture, though. No individual presentations for class time, but you do very detailed clinical paperwork on the patient you're working with for the clinical time each week and assessed on that.

I would wait on books. More likely than not the books will be the same but there's always the chance they change or upgrade to the next edition. If I remember correctly they sent an e-mail with book info before classes the first week.

For transferring credits, you send a transcript into the school and as long as it's an approved program/class it'll count. If you don't have them, it'll be ok. Several people I know were taking them online as we took classes and they survived.

@mcugetatme: It is possible to shorten the program by a semester but not guaranteed. They have some slots available in the summer for those who have all their pre-req classes completed and the higher GPAs, but not everyone who wants a spot will get one. So some people can get done in 1.5 years instead of the planned 2. I did not because they had a week long camp that you needed to attend in the summer (over nights) and I have kids so I had to pass. :bluecry1:

Thanks :) I'm gonna head over to Baptist and see if I can talk to an admissions counselor. Just wanted some insight first. It'd be awesome if I'll be able to cut the program length down!

Do do you know anyone who's graduated from Baptist? I wonder how the job market looks out here for ADNs and if Baptist helps with job placement

Thank you so much @Badgertastic that helped very much! I was wanting to take those pre req courses online through Alamo because im sure that Baptist charges more for the classes :/ and ok I'll hold off on books because I don't want to buy them and then find out they upgraded! That would be horrible lol! Thank you for all your help (:

@mcugetatme:

Yes, I've met many Baptist grads. We do our clinicals at the Baptist hospitals and I've met a grad at every floor I've worked. I've also met people outside of school that mentioned they graduated from the same school. Baptist has been around for over 100 years, so it's pretty established.

From what I've heard, having gone through the Baptist school gives you a leg up on hiring at Baptist hospitals (North Central Baptist, Downtown Baptist, North East Baptist, St. Luke's Baptist, and Mission Trails). I don't know if that's true but I do see new grads there so it seems legit.

I heard of other places and states with hiring issues for ADNs, but it's not an issue here. There are many jobs for RNs here in San Antonio. You might not get your dream job right away, but you will find a job.

I'm applying for the fall day program as well! B's in A&P and an A in Micro, 78% on the TEAS. Sounds like we're all pretty much in the same boat! I've taken most of the gen Ed courses as well with my bachelors so I'm hoping to cut the program a little short as well.

@mcugetatme did you find anything else out about transferring those credits?

Hey everyone!

I applied for Fall '16 at BSHP a few weeks ago. Upon doing so I emailed my advisor as instructed to be sure that it was submitted correctly, but I haven't received a response from her personally. I only got an automated email saying I had successfully applied. Has anyone heard directly from their advisor?

@summerskye23 I was emailing her like 5 times with no response so I went on the baptist page to look at her email address again and it changed! So make sure you're emailing the right address. Congrats on applying (: she told me to make sure you have your TEAS score sent to her in a pdf through email just in case, a copy of your high school diploma or transcript and make sure an official transcript is sent directly to the school. All of this is due May 15th! So coming pretty soon. She said we should expect to hear something about 2 weeks after May 15th (: so excited

2 weeks :( I don't know if I can wait any longer
