Baptist School Of Health Professions- Fall 2016
@mcugetatme: Yes, I've met many Baptist grads. We do our clinicals at the Baptist hospitals and I've met a grad at every floor I've worked. I've also met people outside of school that mentioned they graduated from the same school. Baptist has been around for over 100 years, so it's pretty established. From what I've heard, having gone through the Baptist school gives you a leg up on hiring at Baptist hospitals (North Central Baptist, Downtown Baptist, North East Baptist, St. Luke's Baptist, and Mission Trails). I don't know if that's true but I do see new grads there so it seems legit. I heard of other places and states with hiring issues for ADNs, but it's not an issue here. There are many jobs for RNs here in San Antonio. You might not get your dream job right away, but you will find a job.

@Ashleynt: If you have questions after class or during breaks in the day you can ask the professors. You can also meet them after class if you have questions. During clinicals at the hospitals you'll be assessed individually for specific skills and be able to ask your clinical instructor questions as needed. Before going to the hospital you'll have a couple weeks of lab instead of clinicals where you're trained on specific tasks and individually assessed by instructors. We had a few group presentations and group work. A majority of the instruction is powerpoint and lecture, though. No individual presentations for class time, but you do very detailed clinical paperwork on the patient you're working with for the clinical time each week and assessed on that. I would wait on books. More likely than not the books will be the same but there's always the chance they change or upgrade to the next edition. If I remember correctly they sent an e-mail with book info before classes the first week. For transferring credits, you send a transcript into the school and as long as it's an approved program/class it'll count. If you don't have them, it'll be ok. Several people I know were taking them online as we took classes and they survived. @mcugetatme: It is possible to shorten the program by a semester but not guaranteed. They have some slots available in the summer for those who have all their pre-req classes completed and the higher GPAs, but not everyone who wants a spot will get one. So some people can get done in 1.5 years instead of the planned 2. I did not because they had a week long camp that you needed to attend in the summer (over nights) and I have kids so I had to pass.

Baptist School Of Health Professions- Fall 2016
Hi! I started the RN program (day program) at Baptist in Fall of 2015, so I'm a year in. Class sizes are pretty large, at least for the day program. We have approximately 70 people per class for lectures. We're broken into small groups for clinicals (about 10 students) which rotate every 8 weeks to different sites and different people in your group. I had no clinical experience before starting. Some people do, others don't. I felt behind in the beginning compared to my peers who did but we catch up and it's not an issue. You are not expected to know anything coming in. Just jump in and do as much as you can, you'll catch up quickly. You do not need a degree before applying, but I do recommend taking the extra gen ed classes as soon as you can (composition, sociology, algebra, medical ethics, lifespan growth and development). You can also take them elsewhere this summer and transfer the credits in. It'll free up your time during school and less for you to juggle. I am extremely happy with the Baptist instruction. The instructors want to help you become great nurses. The students in my cohort are fantastic. It's large classes but has a small school atmosphere. Good luck, everyone! If you have any questions I'll check in and try to answer them.

I had the same concern about the access code and media. I think I might head over to the bookstore that was recommended for buying our books and see if any of them have CDs or access codes. I think the $218 book does have both, but I can't tell with the others.

I have one on Tuesday. I called almost two weeks ago to get the appointment, though.

Hmmm, I'll post the address here. I'm not sure if we're allowed to post outside links here so I'll remove it if a mod says it's a no-go: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BSHPnursingFall2015/

So I created a closed Facebook group, called BSHP-Nursing-Fall 2015, if anyone wants to join. It should show up through search on Facebook. I thought it'd be easier since I access Facebook more often than the Allnurses website.

My processing day is July 20th from 1-3 PM, so @Patenzie, I'll be there with you! I'm having to schedule my health screening for after the first processing day, which I hate to do, but we haven't moved to San Antonio yet. We're still waiting on the military to give my husband his PCS orders and we can't schedule the movers until that happens. I hate it when they do things so last minute. I'll be running around like a chicken with my head cut off right before processing day at this rate.

Who to hire to drive kids to AM daycare?
Thanks everyone. I am going to check with the daycare director about finding another parent who may be willing to help me in the mornings. That option would probably lead to less random cancellations than hiring a babysitter. I called and asked about early drop-off and the receptionist said that they do not open before 0630. Hopefully it'll all work out. I'm always a little envious of you all who have family and friends to rely on where you're living. Lucky ducks!

Who to hire to drive kids to AM daycare?
I am going to nursing school in the fall. We are also moving to the area (military family) and will have no friends and family there (or nearby states) to help with childcare. Therefore, we will be relying on a facility daycare for the youngest that has a before and after school program (with transport) for the elementary school child. I just found out that our clinicals will begin at 6:30 AM. Our daycare opens at 6:30 AM (as does most in the area--or later--from what I could see). Husband will not be able to help with kids for the first semester of school--he will be in the field training and away from home for those months. So I will need someone to drive the kids to daycare and before school care 2-3 days a week. Who do I trust with that responsibility, that will be reliable and not leave me stranded on a clinical day? From what I understand, if I miss I can be expelled from the program. I've heard care.com is unreliable. Do you agree? What have other parents done in your programs?

Thanks, Clint1076. Do you know what people with children in daycare did on clinical days? Most of the daycares I've found open at 0630.

I got into the day program. Whoo! Congrats, Patenzie. Are you on day or night? @Akeyes: I'm so sorry you didn't make it in. Will you take the LVN slot?

I had read somewhere that they said they'd mail results two weeks after the deadline, so I guess officially we should start hearing back on Saturday, the 30th. Maybe Monday, June 1st if they don't send stuff out on the weekends. I was really hoping to hear something by now. I'm checking my e-mail every 5 mins, too.
