Baptist School Of Health Professions- Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone,

I know it's early!! But, I applied for the Fall of 2016 and was wondering if anyone else had also applied? What is your GPA? How is the TEAS test?

I heard they're small too! But just wondered if maybe you knew about how many. I think it's better that they're small classes so we can at least get more one on one time if we need it! @jntsnkhl

@ohheyyitskaci aww darn! I know that test is horrible! In my opinion. Were you planning on applying for Spring 2017? Or when will you be applying?

Congrats to those who got in and good luck to those who've applied!

I'm applying this fall, but I'm so full of nerves! Do y'all mind answering a few questions to help me out?

Applying to this program is a new thought that just came to me, so I'm still confused!

I'm worried that the admission steps look to simple and that I'm missing something...

Basically, take the TEAS exam, and the prereqs (only micro and A&P I andII) and they'll decide from there? That's it?

Does anyone have any clinical/hands-on experience? Is that a factor in admissions as well?

Do I need to be a college grad? BSHP will still accept me without a Bachelor's degree, right? (Considering I meet all the other requirements obviously...)

Hi there,

@mcugetatme yes all BSHP requires is anatomy 1 & 2 and micro! They base acceptance in your TEAS score and your GPA from those 3 classes. No you don't need to have a degree already. I Applied for the fall as well! Clinical experience is not required. The deadline to turn in your teas scores, college transcript and a photocopy of your hs diploma or transcript is due May 15th. Have you turned your stuff in already?

Thanks so much for your reply! And good luck! Hope you get in!

I haven't taken prereqs yet, but hoping to do so in summer/fall and then apply for spring. Fingers crossed!

Do you happen to know what the acceptance rate is and what scores they generally tend to accept? Also, did you have to take the NET?

Good luck with your pre reqs (: no they don't require the NET. I looked up the acceptance rate and it was a 69.2% but it hasn't been updated since 2010. As far as the TEAS scores I've heard different things. Some say anything above 75% is a good score and others say 80%. I made a 75.3%. So I guess we'll see if I get accepted with that score! Pre reqs I've heard A's and B's are good!

Thank you so much!!

Just one more question! Do you know if our prior transcripts are even an admission factor? I've done terrible in college this year and I'd hate for them to use that against me :(

The only classes they look at is microbiology and anatomy 1&2. And then they calculate a gpa based on those 3 classes. So none of your other classes matter to them. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them. (:

Hi! I started the RN program (day program) at Baptist in Fall of 2015, so I'm a year in.

Class sizes are pretty large, at least for the day program. We have approximately 70 people per class for lectures. We're broken into small groups for clinicals (about 10 students) which rotate every 8 weeks to different sites and different people in your group.

I had no clinical experience before starting. Some people do, others don't. I felt behind in the beginning compared to my peers who did but we catch up and it's not an issue. You are not expected to know anything coming in. Just jump in and do as much as you can, you'll catch up quickly.

You do not need a degree before applying, but I do recommend taking the extra gen ed classes as soon as you can (composition, sociology, algebra, medical ethics, lifespan growth and development). You can also take them elsewhere this summer and transfer the credits in. It'll free up your time during school and less for you to juggle.

I am extremely happy with the Baptist instruction. The instructors want to help you become great nurses. The students in my cohort are fantastic. It's large classes but has a small school atmosphere. Good luck, everyone! If you have any questions I'll check in and try to answer them.

Hi there @Badgertastic

thank you for your response! I have a couple questions for you. If the lecture classes are that large is there still some what one on one time with the professors? Is there any single person presentations or are they group presentations? Also, I was starting to look at the book list so if I get accepted I will know what to purchase, but the list says its for summer. Are the books usually the same? Or how often are they updated? As far as the other courses I can take during the summer, how are the credits transferred in from Alamo colleges to baptist??

Thank you so much!!

If I've already taken these classes, can I transfer those credits over? Will that cut the program shorter for me?

@mcugetatme where did you take the Medical ethics?? I'm trying to look into taking it over the summer but it's no where on Alamo colleges!

I haven't taken it yet! I was referring to the algebra, sociology, and comp classes :)
