Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio Spring admission

U.S.A. Texas

Published

i am a military spouse and we are getting ready to relocate to san antonio, tx next month. i was all set up to start an rn program here in virginia this fall, but thanks to the military... that changed.

i have researched sac's rn programs and for st. phillips, you have to first be an lpn, and for san antonio college, i have to have my hep-b vaccines completed prior to the application being done. i will not have my hep-b series completed until december. galen college... you must first complete their lpn program or be a lpn before acceptance into their rn program.

my only other option is baptist health system school of health professions. it is an asn program, 5 semesters... with the 3rd being general courses. i am excited and ready to start. i am hoping to get in for spring 2011 session. their prerequisites for the asn program are a&p 1 and 2 with labs, intro to psych and microbiology. i have 45 college credits... but do not have microbiology... it just wasn't a prerequisite for the rn prgram here. bap.health does not offer their prereqs there.

my plan is to take microbiology this fall at sac, you can be provisionally accepted pending completion of any prereqs. here is my issue.

i applied in april to sac... they never sent me an e-mail or letter confirming or denying acceptance. i called last week on was on hold for 30+ minutes 2 times. finally a counselor said i was in the system, but he can't tell me anything becasuse he was not my assigned counselor. i can't register for classes online because they haven't assigned me to a counselor to set up a student account for me online. and even once they do set up an account for me online, i can't register for any classes with them because i have to take placement tests with them first.

they only accept act, sat, or accuplacer. my act scores are 1 year too old for them to accept, and nobody in the state of virginia uses the accuplacer tests. by the time i could set up to take the act or sat and get it graded i will already be in texas. if i wait until i get there to take the accuplacer... there won't be any open seats for a microbiology class. ugh.

this is messed up and very inconvenient. san antonio college has the most unorganized system i have ever seen. and not to mention the rude people who they allow to answer the phones.

is anyone else applying for the spring session at baptist for their asn program?

Hi yall! I fell upon this post and I am so glad I did. I am a military spouse as well :) and am moving back to San Antonio in the next week :yeah:. We were stationed in Cali and I have decided to go back home to SA TX to pursue my goals in becoming an RN :nurse: and long story short ,since my husband will be deployed soon....Well, first off let me say that I had a well thought out plan to attend Galen,(I even have a scheduled appt with finance nxt week). But as I was looking through the paper work I began to wonder about ACCREDITATION. I never thought being accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE would be so important, esp when I do want to pursue my Bachelors, and eventually Masters Degree at a Texas university. I thought Galen was a great choice because of its "no pre-reqs" required, esp for someone like me who does not have any college credits. Also, the whole, get your RN degree in 2 yrs, was even better. I have decided on just going the longer route. Taking pre-reqs at SAC San Antonio College and then either staying at SAC for RN or going to Baptist Health School of Professionals.I have a friend who just recently graduated from BHSP and absolutely loved everything about that school and agrees with this plan. I would like to know what other students or people think about SAC and Baptist, their admissions process, their teachers, their facilities, their pros and cons :) Please let me know

I actually got accepted in the Baptist Spring 2011 program today! I got the acceptance email earlier today. I applied to SAC as well, but my top choice was Baptist. I have heard excellent things about Baptist. I'm really excited!

Hi I read that you started at baptist in the spring 2011 and I'm applying for spring 2012. Was it very competivie to get in? How did you do on the teas v? Do you know what was the gpa range? How are the clinicals? Does it go straight through or a break in the summerThank you

Does anyone know what the online college algebra is like for the Baptist? I have all other general education classes done.

Specializes in Critical Care.

As a graduate from BSHP, I would STRONGLY advise you look into one of the Alamo colleges to complete your Algebra class. Quite frankly, it's much less expensive, and they offer online courses. Hope this helps!

Good luck to you!

Foomey, RN

I attend SAC now with Microbiology...I HATE it. AVOID SAC at all costs!!! I got my acceptance email last week for Baptist Health and I'm ridiculously excited! :-)

I recommend taking any or all science prerequisites at St.Philips. So much better than Sac, no parking problem, better classrooms and lab's, and awesome instructors. All that for the exact same price as SAC, it's a no brainer! The have an LVN program at present but they are working on starting up a RN program as well in the future. Getting your LVN first and then being a RN program is soothe good route to consider. I was going to do that but recently got abhorred into the Baptist RN program

Hi Guys! I'm going to apply to bshp for the fall 2014 school year. I have a 3.5 but I have that because I retook A&P 2. I read on an older post that they don't count retakes. Do any of you guys know if that's true? Also if you don't mind sharing your gpa and teas scores with me I'd appreciate that. I'm trying to see if I'll be considered competitive enough or not!!
