Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio Spring admission

U.S.A. Texas

Published

i am a military spouse and we are getting ready to relocate to san antonio, tx next month. i was all set up to start an rn program here in virginia this fall, but thanks to the military... that changed.

i have researched sac's rn programs and for st. phillips, you have to first be an lpn, and for san antonio college, i have to have my hep-b vaccines completed prior to the application being done. i will not have my hep-b series completed until december. galen college... you must first complete their lpn program or be a lpn before acceptance into their rn program.

my only other option is baptist health system school of health professions. it is an asn program, 5 semesters... with the 3rd being general courses. i am excited and ready to start. i am hoping to get in for spring 2011 session. their prerequisites for the asn program are a&p 1 and 2 with labs, intro to psych and microbiology. i have 45 college credits... but do not have microbiology... it just wasn't a prerequisite for the rn prgram here. bap.health does not offer their prereqs there.

my plan is to take microbiology this fall at sac, you can be provisionally accepted pending completion of any prereqs. here is my issue.

i applied in april to sac... they never sent me an e-mail or letter confirming or denying acceptance. i called last week on was on hold for 30+ minutes 2 times. finally a counselor said i was in the system, but he can't tell me anything becasuse he was not my assigned counselor. i can't register for classes online because they haven't assigned me to a counselor to set up a student account for me online. and even once they do set up an account for me online, i can't register for any classes with them because i have to take placement tests with them first.

they only accept act, sat, or accuplacer. my act scores are 1 year too old for them to accept, and nobody in the state of virginia uses the accuplacer tests. by the time i could set up to take the act or sat and get it graded i will already be in texas. if i wait until i get there to take the accuplacer... there won't be any open seats for a microbiology class. ugh.

this is messed up and very inconvenient. san antonio college has the most unorganized system i have ever seen. and not to mention the rude people who they allow to answer the phones.

is anyone else applying for the spring session at baptist for their asn program?

Actually, pretty much the majority of colleges have unorganized schedules (ive been to 3). Don't sweat it. When you arrive here to San Antonio go to SAC and take the test (cost $15) the results are given to you once you finish. You might be able to get a class the first day of school Aug 23 (usually someone will drop the course or not be able to afford it). If youre taking microbiology take mr. **** ****** (he's awesome). I applied to Baptist ASN program but decided to go to UTHSC-SA BSN program. If you need any help with SAC feel free to ask : )

Thanks,

I thought about the UTHSC-SA BSN proogram, but I do not have all of those gen. education credit requirements. I went online to the live chat counseling for SAC and the counselor suggested I e-mail the Biology department explaining my situation and ask them to waive the need for the math portion of the Accuplacer so I can register for micro. since I have taken several other college level sciences.

Thanks so much friendlysmile!

yeah, i did that as well. i called the chemistry department because I needed to take only the lab portion since I had already completed and passed the lecture course. they were very helpful. hope everything works out for you. If youre ever interested in applying to UTHSC-SA or questions about SAC/san antonio just let me know (i will start the nursing program at UTHSC in Aug).

I just read the catalog for Baptist School of nursing and you have to have your immunizations done for this school as well. St Phillips doesn't have an RN program. As for SAC they are having all kinds of registration issues this semester. Also, it is my understanding you don't have to have proof of your immunization, CPR certification, etc until you are accepted and they start a file for you. Hope this helps.

I actually got accepted in the Baptist Spring 2011 program today! I got the acceptance email earlier today. I applied to SAC as well, but my top choice was Baptist. I have heard excellent things about Baptist. I'm really excited!

congrats Haleyjo! I got accepted as well for the spring as well. everything is going to be ok...what a sigh of relief!! hahaha

I, too, was accepted into Baptist's program on Wednesday! :lol2: Can't wait to begin! Good luck to everyone!

Oh my gosh, I totally feel your pain! I too am a military wife who was re-located after starting at a nursing school already. My husband and his supervisor tried everything to get the orders stopped, but to no avail.

I was so beyond frustrated with SAC! You are right, they are rude and not very helpful. But, I persevered...I wasn't about to let stinky attitudes get in my way, lol! I applied to SAC twice and was turned down both times with a 4.0! I was told that I'd have to sit out a semester after finsihing all my pre-req's before they'd let me in. I applied to Baptist instead and was accepted.

I was delayed about a year and a half, but am happy to report that I am due to graduate April 28th, 2011 from Baptist! :yeah: I am probably biased, but I think Baptist has been an excellent school. The instructors truly care about you as an individual.

I wish you good luck...do not lose your can-do attitude  It is frustrating, but you can overcome it! I wish you well in your future Nursing career! :nurse:

I am a military spouse also and will apply to baptist for the spring 2012 class. Was it hard getting in their and how many semesters are left if you are entering the bridge program. I still have to pass the TEAS test. My HESI test scores are not accepted at this school.

I did not do a bridge program (was not an LVN first). You will have to take the NET test to get into Baptist. I didn't think it was very difficult to get in...I got in on my first try.

Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll do great!:) It seems like such a long road when you first get started, but after that it just flies by. I am a graduate nurse now, but I remember thinking it was going to take me forever....it really went fast!

Hope that helps!

Thanks stephanie they said I have to take the TEAS. Test so thanks I hope I get in. I am really trying to finish my degree. Tired of being a LVN.
