Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio Spring admission
As a graduate from BSHP, I would STRONGLY advise you look into one of the Alamo colleges to complete your Algebra class. Quite frankly, it's much less expensive, and they offer online courses. Hope this helps! Good luck to you! Foomey, RN

What do you pack in your lunch box?
I'm not yet a nurse, but between work and school, I've become a pro at packed lunches/dinners. #1) I'll always make plenty of salad for dinner, and take the leftovers for lunch. A nice side of dressing made from balsamic vinegar, a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. Put some cheese, hardboiled egg, and lots of veggies...YUM! #2) String cheese #3) Apple and peanut butter (Skip the Jiffy and Peter Pan...they have LOTS of crap in them, and pb should ONLY have peanuts and salt!) #4) Make meals that freeze well, and portion them in single servings. (lasagne, brisket cooked in the crock pot, spagetti and meat marinara, soups, etc) #5) Costco, if you have one, has wonderful frozen veggies. Pack them, and they'll defrost while in the fridge...VERY quick to heat up. #6) Can't go wrong with a PB&J. I'm diabetic, so I use sugar free jellies, but they're still very yummy. #7) Almonds are a great protein source, and have less fats than some other nuts. Hope this helps!

anyone take chemistry without college algebra and do good
I wouldn't recommend taking Chemistry online. That's just my 2 cents, but I believe science courses should be taken in a live classroom setting. The math isn't difficult, but it also depends upon your comfort levels, as well as simply "getting" the concepts. I took chemistry with some very brilliant people, and quite a few of us had problems towards the very end of the semester with Mols, balancing complicated equations, etc. Good luck!!

Should I take Anatomy and physiology 2 and microbiology together?
If you only plan on taking the two courses, I say go for it! I took A&P I and Chemistry, as well as two other non-science courses, and managed to pull out a 4.0. If you have excellent study skills, you'll do just fine. I'm in Micro now, and find the class fascinating. And, we're rarely in the lab for the entire 3 hours. Good luck!

Best shoes for plus size women
I wear Alegrias for my job at Starbucks, and I love them! I'm planning on buying a white pair for nursing school.

End of Pre-Reqs, laziness
I'm feeling the same way, but I've already been accepted to a nursing program for Spring 2011. I'm on track for A's, too, and I often tell myself that it'll be so rewarding to finish up with a 3.98 GPA. Admittedly, I've slacked a couple of assignments, but only if I'm studying for another class. Otherwise, I just keep at it. Hang in there...just one more month to go!

Discouraged....
I'm not a mother, but I felt scatterbrained when I was in A&P, as well. A good friend of mine suggested that I purchased A&P coloring books. They helped me so much! You can purchase them on Amazon.com. They focus on specific areas of the body, and by taking the time to color, it really helps you memorize the various muscles, tendons, etc. Amazing! Best wishes to you, and I know that you'll manage to find a good balance between work and home. My mother was a non-traditional student, but I was 5 when she went to school. I know that this is a very personal decision, but you'll know the right one for yourself.

Please don't judge me...I need advice please.
In addition to all of the excellent suggestions, I would strongly suggest getting a few letters of recommendation from current professors. And, an essay couldn't hurt. Being able to "explain" a situation certainly will shed some light if erasing your history isn't an option. I received my BA in 1993, and my GPA was 2.14. 17 years later, I'm back in school (junior college), and just got accepted into a competitive Nursing program. They only counted my pre-reqs, but I did personally explain my prior grades (my brother passed away during college), as well as had letters of recommendation. But, I also have a 4.0 GPA now, so I'm certain that helped. Admissions counselors are well aware that some of us flourish as we get older, and value education, etc more as an adult. I wish you the best of luck, and know you'll do fine. Just focus on the big picture, and don't let anything stand in your way of achieving your goals! :-)

Baptist Nursing school Spring 2011
The list is actually made earlier in the year, and new editions come out regularly.

Baptist Nursing school Spring 2011
I would wait to purchase any books. Science fields tend to change, yearly, and you don't want to spend money on a book that will be out of date. I'm sure they'll have the list on the 9th of November.

Health Insurance for nursing school, how can I afford this!?
I do work at Starbucks, and have their insurance. It's not super cheap, but they do offer a couple of choices in most states. You're only required to work an average of 20 hours per week to qualify. I'm 39 years old, and also have my BA, but I happen to be one of those people that manages time VERY well. Working and going to school isn't for everyone, so use your best judgement. If you qualify for Federal aid, then use it! If not, try the Starbucks route. Good luck and best wishes!
