I was just wondering if anyone who had applied for the Banner Nurse Fellows program had heard back from them yet. I'm going out of my mind waiting to hear from them.
I didn't get in
I have worked for Banner for 18 mo's now, a year of which is in the ER. I'm not sure why I didn't get in. I was able to answer most of the questions relatively quickly and with, what I thought, were pretty good answers. Did everyone else have a "panel" of --------- and that Tele nurse from Desert? I was really expecting more than 2 people on the panel.
Hopefully I'll get in in October though. If not, then I'm thinking Paramedic school, then medic-RN bridge program? I'm not sure...
Congrats to those who got in though.

What makes you think that they aren't taking Banner employees? We have 3-4 banner employees in our cohort that just started this past Oct. Have you asked them what you did wrong in the interview? That is strange that they wouldn't take you. Maybe they think you work to much? Well all I can say is try again.
They are not taking very many employees of Banner. Also, they are going towards the direction of people that already have a bachelor's degree in any field and are going into nursing. And yes, I did have --------- and the lady fron Desert. I know her already from when I worked at Desert, I wouldn't call the interview was with a "panel". The whole thing is a joke for people now days. W/O a bachelors they pretty much will go through the "hoops: with you, but will nor choose you.
Hi Preemie,
I know it must be frustrating being an employee and not getting selected. I just want to say I do not have a perfect grade point average or a bachelors degree. I have a good gpa, scored high on the net and spoke from the heart in my essays. I don't think they are giving preferential treatment to those with a bachelors. A bachelors in another field will not guarantee a person will be a good health care professional. There is a separate cohort for people with a bachelors already but they still have to pass the interview process and I believe they are looking for compassionate individuals. If you had an interview your best bet is to call and see why you were not selected. Don't give up, you can reapply for the next cohort. I have read where some applicants applied and interviewed several times before being accepted. Also the size of the panel depends on the availability of staff and alumni on the interview dates.
I don't feel having a Bachelors gives you one up. They have two entirely different programs. One for Bachelor holders only and one for us regulars. I am very sorry to those who were not accepted. I had a panel of 6 interviewers. I actually talked to the person in charge and she told me that they look for very sincere essays that make you stand out from the rest. ANYTHING personal, not the traditional "I'm a hard worker, I'm dedicated...yadda yadda. Everyone says they have those qualities,(not that they dont have those qualities) but they want those that stand out. I start in March at Gateway and my GPA is 3.0 and my Net wasn't anything to brag about. I think it was mid 70's. But I spoke from the heart in my essays, I did my best to stand out and show who I am. I needed to do well on those to make up for points lost in my GPA area. The interview I felt I did well on as well. I ran over the mission statement. Found times in my life where I have had given service and looked the panel in the eye when talking, never referring to the sheet of questions. All I can say is BE PERSONAL, show who you are, let them see not only that you will be a positive benefit to the program but you can handle the accelerated program and you will make a DANG good nurse. Don't be discouraged, get your stuff together and get going on those essays and really spice them up. Go re-take the NET to try and up your scores. Anything. My advice, good luck and congrats to the March cohorts!
I didnt have a bachelors either and I dont have any medical experience. I let them know that nursing is my passion and that I am available because I dont have to work. I answered my essay's truthfully and at my interview I did the same. I actually thought that I did not do well on my interview because everything that I thought they would ask and I had planned for they didn't so I was forced to answer the questions from the heart. I think you have to make an impression on them and prove that your compassionate. Good Luck to everyone I must say that I love the program and I cant wait to graduate.
This is such awsome help, thank you. I will keep all of this in mind when applying. I have one more question for you. When you answered your essay questions did you use the sheet provided, or did you type them on another sheet? I am asking, because I was advised on this website to only use the sheet they provide you.

I used the sheet provided. I would not suggest to type and attach another sheet. They thumb through so many applications it may not be a good thing. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. I did a rough draph of my answers, had a few people read through them and then finalized them. I used up every line on there though. Be genuine and be you.
Hey Hereitgoes3,
I see you are also in the March Cohort, Congrats!!! Do you live in the west valley? There are two of us that do, and are looking at possible carpooling or study groups. We will all be doing plenty of both, lol! Two months and one day, the countdown has begun!!! Hope to see you at orientation!

Hey Guys,
I made it!!! I still can't believe it and had to check to make sure it was for me, lol! I thought I totally blew my interview, I am in complete shock! I guess for those that haven't made it in yet, don't stop trying. It is a combination of a good grade point average, net score, and essay answers, to get an interview. In the interview, they want to know that you can handle the program, commit 100% and are a compassionate person. Stay positive and know you will become a nurse, regardless!
For those of you who also made it for the March cohort, Congrats!!!!
