banner layoffs

Any news on the Banner Layoffs?

Specializes in NICU.

Are they making budget cuts at all? Or just laying people off?

Banner has very competitive pay, great differentials (20% night shift), and double time for extra shifts. But none of that is being cut? They're just laying off? Everyone is hurting ... but a lot of places are cutting back everyone.

Not sure what's best though ..... lay off some so the others can keep their full pay/benefits, or cut back everyone, but keep them all employed?

I applied for several jobs through Banner back in December. About three weeks ago I got a call for an interview as a PFS Rep. At the interview I specifically asked about layoffs and was told that while some Banner hospitals were heavily affected by the layoffs, others lost very few staff. They are trying to relocate as many staff as possible to different locatiosn, but not everyone is willing to take a different shift (nights vs. days). As for me I would have been happy to get a job at any one of their hospitals and will work days, nights, weekends, whatever. They pay well especially shift differential, holidays, and overtime. BTW, I was offered and accepted the job and I start next week!

Hey I was a PFS Rep at Tbird before I switched to Shea! PFS pays surprisingly well but I didnt like it because I didnt like having a quota as far as my co-pay collections are concerned!

Scottsdale luckily has not had any lay offs that I know of. They have just been cutting down on perks which sux but then again its better than losing jobs IE: you have to do Healthstreams (those computer continuing education things) either on your down time at work or on your own time (they used to pay you if you did it at home) also the xmas bonus used to be cash but instead they gave us some cheap back pack:cry: but the worst thing they got rid of was the student loan repayment which was awesome Scottsdale Healthcare used to pay $5,250 a year towards your student loans if you work full time in a "high demand job" like RT, Xray, RN but they stopped that a month before I graduated Respiratory School (BALLS!!!!!!!):banghead:

Its kind of a drag but I am just happy to have a job and I will give up some perks in order to keep my job as well as the jobs of my coworkers.

Heath care is. But in a depression, nothing is for sure. And that's what we are sliding into; fast. Experienced nurses, will have much more job security than us new grads. But some of them will lose jobs as well. Why spend the money training if they can avoid it? My husband is in utilites; his pay was cut, big time cut, as in hundreds of dollars worth of bring home. We all use energy, lights, gas, sewer, water, but they have less people doing more work. They don't want to hire anyone that they have to babysit, or train. So they will do without the needed help, to cut costs. Bad, bad, economy. What we lost monthly would be a nice size car payment. Which actually we still have. Only it's now like making two each month with the pay loss. We both had parents who survived the big depression, and grew up hearing the stories. The day they cut his pay, he dug a garden in the backyard and planted seeds. Things will probably, IMO get worse, before they start getting better.

Hello,

I'm a Canadian RN who got a AZBN unauthorized license, NCLEX, CGFNS VSC and is planning to relocate to Phoenix in June, 2009. I need a job offer with an employmnet letter before I can get a TN visa. In fact, I had interviewed Banner Health Good Samaritan recruiter and unit managers in Nov, 2008 while I was waiting for my VSC. Unfortunately, the position that I applied for has already been filled (I just got my VSC on Mar 3, 2009). Does anyone have any suggestions in job finding and also in job availability in Phoenix area?

The work areas I'm looking for can be in the kidney center as dialysis RN, ICU, NeuroICU either working straight days or varied shifts. Of course, I can also work in other areas as an RN. I got 20 years of Canadian RN experiences (15 years ICU and 3 years dialysis working experience), I'm currently working on the NP master program as well.

I'm planning of relocation for good, anyone has some creative ideas??

I'm coming to the Job Fair in April 2009 in Phoenix, hope I can get an exciting job offer !!!

Thanks everyone in advance

Why are you posting this in a thread about layoffs? Is this a joke or something?

Excuse me Stopnik, it wasn't a joke. In fact I'm just sharing the thoughts of the previous correspondants. It's for those who are willing to help out others re: nursing issues.

I've posted many times on this website, I got all kinds of helpful input from members and moderators. They gave me lots of hints in getting my NCLEX, VSC... I trust this website and I always log on to see what's happening and what's new in US. Layoffs is definitely a most concerned issue and I don't see any reason why anybody would consider it as a joke. Overall, the Allnurses.com will assess whether it's appropriate or not.

I have no intention to treat this as a joke. The bottom line is, I'm still enjoying the freedom of appropriate speech eventhough it seems likely to diminish nowaday!

Peace we know that it is a sensitive subject in Az at the moment:wink2:

So off topic :offtopic:please keep to the subject material

No offence intended. I realize you are serious. Free speach still lives.

Banner has actually cut the double-time pay, started calling off lots of nurses, and are generally watching the time clock like a hawk.

Things are quite sensitive out here regarding jobs. Even experienced nurses are having a tough time getting hired. There was an article in the Arizona Republic (go to azcentral.com) about 3-4 Sundays ago stating that the nursing shortage has "gone away." While you are certainly free to come on out and give it a try, the timing may not be great. Keep in mind, also, that the summer is the slow time in AZ, with patient censuses waaaayyyy down. So demand will be even lower come April-May.

If networking is your point, I would suggest creating a new thread in the Arizona section. Your intended message may be slightly obscured in a thread dedicated to layoffs by Arizona's largest healthcare employer. Just keep in mind that 80% (conservatively) of the posters in the AZ section tend to be people trying to get into nursing school and nursing students.
