  1. Oh great news you guys I got a job at Scottsdale Osborn!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am super happy unfortunately its PRN for now but I am sure that once they see my passion and enthusiasm for patient care I am sure that they will want to offer me a full time position. I will be working night shift 3 12hour shifts per 2 weeks at Shea as a Huc and then 3 12hour day shifts per pay period at Osborn:banghead:. Which may be a little difficult but I wanted to work during the day shift because I figure it would increase my chances of making a good impression as well as getting on a personal basis with the Respiratory big wigs there by increasing my chances of getting a full time position. I wish I could quit HUCING but I have to keep doing it in order to keep my benefits plus I will have a stable income in case I get called off at Osborn but I am just soooo happy to have the opportunity to do what I love and actually get paid for it! Even though I will be working night shift and day shift and driving 45 miles one way to work, I consider it a small price to pay in order to pursue my passion! I just want to thank everyone for your help and support and good vibes. I would also like to send good vibes out to everyone that is still looking for a job and tell them to just hang in there and keep trying!
  2. I got the job thanks to everyone for your good vibes I appreciate it!!!!:yeah:I now have the opportunity to become the best RT ever. My goal is to be the guy that once the nurses realize who their RT is they are happy and feel like its gona be an easy day!
  3. Good advice you guys thank you very much! I have decided to work my Huc job and accept the pool position at Osborn. I will be working 3 days per pay period at Shea in order to keep my benefits and then work minimum 3 days per pay period at Osborn or more if they will allow me. I am just so excited I cant believe I actually got the job I would totally cry if I wasn't a dude:D
  4. I am a HUC and I think it is a great stepping if you are ambitious there are some HUCS that stay Hucs for like 10 years and there are some that advance such as myself, I started as a HUC at banner and only made like 10.50 an hour but that was more than they were paying cna's at the time plus I dealt with alot less POO and I didnt have to worry about having a license. I made it a point to stand out of the crowd of scrubbed people I networked with everyone in every dept and a year later it paid off I got a job as a ER Registrar and got bumped up to 14.14 an hour:up: but I had to work 5 8 hour days which is a real drag especially since I started respiratory school and was going 4 hours a day 5 days a week plus home work! Another good thing is that you are the middle man between your floor and other departments and doctors which puts you in the best position to network. I switched to my current job at scottsdale got a better easier job with a slight decrease in pay but definitely worth it. Since I am already in Scottsdale healthcare it helped me get a job as a Respiratory therapist which is extremely hard to come by especially as a new grad! The Unit coordinator program at Gateway is good you technically dont need to go but its not a terrible idea if you dont have prior hospital experience because its only one semester and majority of the classes you take are prereqs for other health care jobs like medical terminology and the fundamentals of healthcare classes. If you do decide to HUC make sure you have an ambitious attitude and a shining personality and you will go far!
  5. Hey I was a PFS Rep at Tbird before I switched to Shea! PFS pays surprisingly well but I didnt like it because I didnt like having a quota as far as my co-pay collections are concerned! Scottsdale luckily has not had any lay offs that I know of. They have just been cutting down on perks which sux but then again its better than losing jobs IE: you have to do Healthstreams (those computer continuing education things) either on your down time at work or on your own time (they used to pay you if you did it at home) also the xmas bonus used to be cash but instead they gave us some cheap back pack:cry: but the worst thing they got rid of was the student loan repayment which was awesome Scottsdale Healthcare used to pay $5,250 a year towards your student loans if you work full time in a "high demand job" like RT, Xray, RN but they stopped that a month before I graduated Respiratory School (BALLS!!!!!!!) Its kind of a drag but I am just happy to have a job and I will give up some perks in order to keep my job as well as the jobs of my coworkers.
  6. It's kind of a weird question because I have no interest in being an RN first assist but as part of my huc job I sometimes have to call them if we are having an emergency or otherwise unscheduled Csection. I work night shift 7p-7am so I call them at home at like 0330 and ask if they can come in and they have no problem coming in they are almost excited to hear from me. The only reason I can think of is that they must get paid some astronomical amount of money when they come in but it is kinda of unprofessional of me to ask but the curiosity is driving me nuts!!!! So if someone can please kill this curiosity for me I would totally appreciate it!!
  7. Good call I think I may do that thanks!
  8. Hey everybody I just got an offer for a Pool respiratory therapist position at Osborn they say that if I prove myself it can turn full time!!! But here is my dilemma Im a HUC at Shea and I can either work 36 hours per pay period and keep my benefits but I will not get pool pay and I will not be able to work as much as an RT which is bad because I wanna prove myself and it will decrease my chances of becoming full time if I only work 3 days a pay period as an RT! Or I can leave my HUC job and get I think about 10-12 dollars more per hour plus I will be able to work more and increase my chances of getting a full time position but my hours are not guaranteed and it gets slow during the summer there is a possibility that I wont get like any hours plus I will lose my benefits ( which Im not worried to much about the medical and dental because its expensive since Im part time and Im only 27 and am healthy) I could really use your guys wisdom regarding this and appreciate the time you took to read this!
  9. I am a new grad Respiratory Therapist and have been having a nightmare of a time trying to find a job. I work for Scottsdale Healthcare and I did have an interview at Osborn but they decided to give the position to someone else:crying2:. I am at work and noticed that there is another open position at Osborn and I have applied for it and emailed the gal in HR to set me up on an interview. God I hope this is the opportunity I have been waiting for! The pay is awesome, but that is not my main focus I just want the chance to pursue my passion and prove myself to my new employer and co workers and take that first step to becoming the awesomest Respiratory Therapist ever!!! So if you guys/gals have some extra good vibes you can send my way I would appreciate it very much!!!!:bowingpur Thanks The Nebulizer!!
  10. I have tried to speak with the director briefly after my shift (I work nocs) but she seemed kind of busy but I have gotten really cool with alot of the RT's and they are trying to help me get in. I am gona go and talk to her a little bit later after shift change because one of the RT's introduced me before but it was shift change and a little busy. I check the intranet because they post the jobs there first but I havent seen anything in 2 months:cry: My school told me that Kingman Regional medical center is hiring but man I dont want have to go all the way to Kingman to pursue my passion but if thats what it takes then I'll do what I got to do.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions NRSKarenRN, and everyone else I have looked at the websites for Springdale, Select, Atriligie, Hacienda, Plaza, Promise healthcare-nursing care facilities and the VA hospital like Paulio suggested but I didn't see any openings Luckily I still have my Health Unit Coordinator job at Shea so Im gona pick up hours here and also take ACLS, PALS, and NRP while I patiently wait for a position to open up somewhere. I would like to take my RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) exam but I don't have the 400 dollars necessary to take it. Even though I don't have my RRT I think I would look better to a potential employer with my CRT and ACLS, PALS, and NRP versus a new grad that just has an RRT. There is a potential light at the end of the tunnel! My friend works at Boswell as a EKG tech and says they are coming off of the hiring freeze next month! I had a rotation there and I feel I developed an excellent rapport with the staff and supervisors. They were all impressed with my ability to take a full work load even while working full time nights. I pulled 6 12hour shifts a week for 2 months straight half of them were night shift for work and the other half was day shift for clinicals. I would like to work at Boswell because everyone seemed friendly and they allow RT's to do alot there ie; A-lines, balloon pumps, as well as helping in the OR during open hearts. Also I hear Del Webb is opening a new tower and my mom has a good working relationship with the director or RT there and I also had a clinical rotation there and received a stellar review from them. Also Tbird is also coming off of the hiring freeze approx next month according to a friend of mine. I had a rotation there as well and also received a stellar review there as well. In addition to that I also used to work there for 3 years in Tele as a HUC/monitor tech and ER registration. The only thing that worries me about Tbird is that I was fired for poor co pay collections ( but I am eligible for rehire just not as a Er Registrar which is cool because I hated that job anyway, I guess I'm not that good at hitting up sick people for money , I did love the ER though) So I'm just gona pray and hope and wait patiently for the day my badge says Respiratory Therapist and then I will finally be able to eat the fancy ramen noodles that come in the cup!
  12. Dude how'd it go with the job I hope you got it! Either way still sending positive vibes at you and everyone else looking for a job:D
  13. Thanks for the tips I will give that a try but I looked on the websites and did not see any RT positions I do agree with you about the economy thing tho, hopefully it picks up soon because once summer hits it's gona be even more difficult to get a job especially as a new grad!
  14. Hello! My name is Jeff and I am a new grad Certified Respiratory Therapist:smokin: and I have had difficulty in finding a job. I did get a job with a registry but have not gotten a single hour even though I call every week. I went back to every hospital that I have done clinicals at and spoke with the director of the RT department and given them a copy of my resume and even though I've received stellar reviews from all of my clincal sites, no one seems to be hiring. I have 3+ years in the acute care setting (mostly ER, Tele, and L&D) as a Health Unit Coordinator (secretary) and want to get my RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) and my NPS (Neonatal Pediatric Specialist) credentials but cannot afford to until I get an RT position. I realize that this is more of a site for RN's, CNA's, and LPN's but I figured I would post and see if anybody here would be able to help me out with any suggestions, recommendations or referrals :bowingpur. Thanks!
  15. That is awesome I sooo know you are going to get the job and you are going to kick a#$. Hopefully I will be posting a similar thread, still no prospects yet but it's gona happen I can feel it!
