Any advice which of the two hospitals is better to work for, Banner Desert or St. Joe's? Also what do New grad RNs get paid to start at each hospital?

I worked full time at Banner Desert and did registry at St. Joe's. I can answer this question easily if you are interested in ICU or ER only. The ER at Joe's is awesome, I did not like Desert. I did not like the "flow" of pts through Desert (and I was on both sides of the curtain!) Joe's seemed more organized and got less "BS" pts than Desert. The ICU at Desert is GREAT, Joe's...not so much. I found more "attitude" and "clicks" at Joe's (I had a friend quit because of that). Another thing to think about...Banner has alot of facilities. If you get bored or decide to move, you can always transfer. They have their own travel division too. Joe's does not. Banner just gives you more options than Joe's. Banner also has the eICU (which I worked). This is another helping hand to the floor nurses and a waaay easier way to get a doc on the phone in an emergency...just hit the button! Hope this helps. The pay and benefits are about equal.
Not sure about the new grad pay...I think it's around $25

$25.47 new Grad at BDMC and a lot of politics. No tuition reimbursement. Not sure ab Joes which I do have an interview with. I heard St. Joes is more involved in patient care.

Dignity Health is a more employee friendly system IMHO. There is tuition reimbursement and decent benefits. I do not know the exact new grad starting pay but they do have a "Clinical Ladder" program that allows you to get a few extra dollars an hour based upon your involvement in hospital committees, certifications, and continuing education.
