band 7 interview

Published

hello!!

This is the first time I have tried anything like this, please bear with me!!!

In July I completed my spec. practitioner district nurse degree and have been patiently waiting for a post to apply for. I was hoping to ease myself in with a band 6, but nothing has come up. Now there is a band 7 district nurse team leader post being advertised and I am wondering what sort of things I will be asked in interview and what I should look at!! The whole interview thing scares me to death!! Any suggestions would be welcome!!! thank you

Hi, thanks very much for your help! i have been and spent 4 hours with the team leader now, she is retiring and wanted to get a feel for the place, the clinical mangager is fully aware that i have done this and she will be interviewing. not sure about presentation, probably will be one, something to stress about later!! job has just been approved and i am trying to get ahead of the game because i really want the job. the government policies are the things which seem to go in one ear and out the other with me, politics is not my strong point!! although did manage to get a first in my degree... there must be brain in there somewhere!!

thanks again, i have lots of food for thought.

Did the team leader give any idea of what the current drives are, primary care isn't my area so I am not sure what they are

As far as government policies, dont stress too much about it, it's an overview and awareness that you will need. Start with finding out what your prime targets to be achieved will be, I know ours are waiting times, reduced incidents of post operative infections, DVT's I am sure that primary care have similar stuff. Maybe falls prevention, wound healing, keeping patients at home longer reducing admisisons, not sure these are guesses.

Once you have an idea you can sound well informed at interview

For a team leader you are going to have to know about HR policies, dealing with sickness and absence, recruitment and capability

Know about Keys Skills Framework, this is government driven remember and always a good one to throw in at interview.

Please let us know how your getting on

interview is set for 26th feb, brain is about to explode, wish me luck!!!

i know your original posting was a year ago now, but still, if it helps anyone else, here are a couple of questions i was asked at a recent Band 7 interview. i didnt get the job. was a bit of leap of faith anyway, im only band 5 at present.

-----------

if the CQC made an unannouced visit, how would I deal with it? what action would I take?

i found out the answer to this from the 'interview panel' AFTER the interview, - i should be totally profesional, be polite, ask them for ID, then invite them into your office if possible, offer them tea or coffee, excuse yourself for a moment, while you go and find the nearest person to spread the word to other departments. this gives these other departments chance to be prepared for any possible chance inspection by getting skeletons put in closets, making things as tidy as possible in the limited time they may have.

------------

if an SHO phoned in sick, what would i do?

if they phoned in sick then i have to respect that. i would then need to check any available staff list of contacts to see if any replacement is available to come in at short notice, or see if they can come in as a 'swap' shift for another day, or see if any other SHO's who were working in another area that day were available to help out in covering the shortfall for this other area as well.

i was asked 2 other questions as well, but i cant recall them.

i hope you find these useful. In return, PLEASE if anyone else has questions they have been asked at a band 7 interview, then please post them on here. even if you dont know the answer, i will be able to research that bit myself. i will need them one day for when i apply to my next job.

thanks

I am just wondering how as a nurse covering an SHO shift is in your role??

I recently applied for a ANUM role in Australia and got it (associate nurse unit manager) the only staffing worries I have is the nursing staff on the ward and the ward clerk.

Not sure in the above case but all I can think of is that sometimes the Site Managers are band 7's and out of hours they may take calls from doctors calling in sick. Usually this gets kicked up to the registrar who takes the decision to either work short or go out to agency for a relief doctor but it would be the site practitioner / manager who fielded the original call.

Having said that as a nurse practitioner if my F2 (SHO) calls in sick I have to cover his work as far as I can with the Registrar picking up what I can't manage

Great. Thanks for the clarification :)

Hi XB9S,

I am also applying for a band 7 post and was interested to read your earlier reply.

You say that you ask your applicants for a presentation; can you explain more about that? For example, what would you be looking for the applicant to demonstrate about themselves by giving a presentation? What type of topic would you want expect presentation to be about?

Thanks,

Hermione:)

How should I prepare for band 7 interview as a nurse practitioner

can anybody help
