Bachelor of Nurse - Distance Education

Hi all,

OK I'm in Melbourne, Im doing my Division Two Graduate program and Med Endorsement at the moment but am really interested in doing my Bachelor of Nursing via distance while I can still work for the money or lack there of! :-)

Just wondering if UniSA are good, as i get mixed messages about UniSA... I hear they are unorganised... I know you have to goto the Uni twice during your course?? And have been told to apply directly through them as Open Uni can be abit of a hassle... There are so many other places to choose from like Charles Sturt in NSW or Charles Darwin University, CQU in Qld..... I just don't know which one to do it through.. Any ideas/help?!..... Placements i thought placed you in the city you live in? Did anyone find it really difficult teaching themselves the infomation we need to know to sit for exams?

Lots of answers would be great!! :)

Thanks Dayna

Yes, you willl be placed in the city you live. I met some students who are studying Bachelor in Nursing (Distance course) in Charls Darwin Uni. They say they are very satisfied with the course. If sounds very organised program.

Hope that helps,

My friend's sister did her course through SA and had no problems.

I just finished my BN through UniSA by distance education. I found it a great way to study and work at the same time. I didn't really have any complaints with the uni being disorganised, although some students did. In the most part however, I think a lot of students cause their own problems by not reading information sent to them in the course handbooks etc. Other issues seemed to be caused by students trying to modify the course to suit their own needs. Institutions work, by providing standardised course content and placements. I have heard similar comments from students studying through Charles Darwin. I would recommend UniSA external course to anyone prepared to be organised and stay up to date with the workload. Just note though, that you have to travel to the uni twice each year.. Six times in total from the three year program. Also, the Open University program was run by UniSA (and both had the same content - a friend of mine did Open Uni at same time I did UniSA), but all these students were transferred recently to UniSA. I don't think the Open Uni course exists any more. Good luck....

I have worked with students doing the Charles sturt (CSU) a few years ago. Very good course.....You need to go residential school in Bathurst every semester and......then....the pracs had to be done in NSW.....apparently the NSW nurses board insisted that all pracs be done in NSW!!!! if the course was run by a NSW uni. Don't know if this is still a requirement.

UNE runs a distant course too...same deal as CSU but residentials are up in Armidale (NSW).

My 2 cents worth, If I was an EN it would be easier SA or CDU as you don't go to resi as often and can do pracs here in Vic.

I was lucky as RMIT ran a BN at the local TAFE for quite a few years and I managed to get to the on campus lectures that were not too intense and they placed locally, so I gave the UNE course away. C :loveya:
