We have Micromedex and Lexicomp on our work computers; I use those exclusively. So much faster to look it up in a search box, the info is always up-to-date, and you don't have to carry a thick book around. Plus, you can look up IV compatibility just by typing in the drugs you're looking for. That really came in handy the other day when I had someone on Fentanyl, Versed, Atracurium, Nicardipine, MgSO4, 3% NaCl, plus the NS line w/ intermittent drugs piggybacked into it. But back to topic, the online IV compatibility reference is hugely useful.
As far as the app, it might be a good thing to have for your own use, like if you're home studying or something. But many employers don't allow phones to be visible on the floor.

Hi everyone!! I'm a brand new nurse and starting my first job on the Medical/Surgical floor. I want to fully prepared and I'm wondering what are the most important things to have on the job? Do I need a drug guide book or should I download an app on my phone? Thank you all!!
