hi nurses.
I have worked in a tertiary internationally accredited hospital here in Metro Manila 2 years ago. Trained for a month and waited for a call to tell me that i can start working. I was very excited to work since its my first hospital work. I didn't mind the workload (was assigned in a surgical unit),i, infact enjoyed it even if it means not eating nor pee until my shift ends. It was after all one of the best hospital in the Philippines. Even if im a newbie i already handle same number of patients, same level of cases with the seniors. My batchmates have ben sent to just attend programmes and unimportant non professional related seminars while im going about with the duties of a medical surgical nurse.Never had lates, nor absences.(except for one time that i didn't know the sched was changed and i wasnt informed). I thought i was doing well,if not great.
I did not realize that the seniors found me "too good" to be in that floor. In short, they don't like me.Until one day i have this diabetic, hypertensive patient which has a recurring infection. During my shift i was about to give her an IV antibiotic. During the training we were told that we need to flush the line first with Saline solution. So i did just that. The daughter of the patient then asked me why i did that and what it is for. So i explained to her. I was surprised when she said that the other nurses who cared for her mother don't do that. Especially the nurse in the previous shift (which is a senior nurse). I did not now what to say. But i told her she might have not noticed. But perhaps they are doing the flushing too.
Little did i know that she called the PAO (patients assistance office) and reported that the other nurses do not do the flushing before administering an IV antibiotic. THe next day when i arrive to work the senior nurses where looking at me furiously. I wanted to ask what the problem was but i kept quite. My shift was suppose to be 2-10. but its already 1 am and the seniors wont let me go.they gave me tasks and errands that are not suppose to be my job anymore. And i am already weakened by hunger.
The next days they would do the same thing. Whenever they make schedule plans i will always be the first admission, assigned to most toxic cases,no break..etc.
Until i decided to talk to the supervisor. The only mistake i made was telling my batchmate that i'll talk to my supervisor. One of the Seniors overheard and she told the others.
I can only cry when they summoned me to the nurses lounge and threatened me that if i don't resign immediately they will jeopardize my work. One even told me that i should know what they can do to ruin me.I was so afraid that i didn't bother showing up for my next shift. I couldn't resign because if i resign i need to pay the hospital for the remaining months in the contract. And i don't have the money to pay them which will cost about 100k in pesos.
My dilemma now is,should i include that work experience in my applications? Especially in immigration forms?
I'm so confused.Because if ill be asked to provide a proof of employment i dont have anything to show them.

if you think that it will jeopardize your career then dont include the institution in your resume but technically speaking, if you have problems with the head nurse, you should talk the problem to your supervisor but if its between you and the supervisor, talk to the chief nurse or assistant chief nurse, just check your organizational chart. Im so sad to hear that but dont let them ruin your career, what they're doing to you is a form of harassment, you can check your hospital manual regarding that matter, working in an internationally accredited hospital is a big plus in your resume
i couldnt agree more gianphilippines. Looks to me they have established their "roots" in the unit. So the headnurse is on their side. After i left somebody told me that all the headnurses in the unit have been demoted and that there was a reorganization. The said medical surgical floor was the most "chaotic" as they call it. So the NSO decided to reorganize and brought in other heads from other units.
I guess i might not inlude it in my resume. But my other concern is in the forms of immigration. Will i be in trouble if i don't diclose this info?
Was just asking since the same thing happened to my friend while he was at St Lukes. :) He resigned than rather work with them. He opted to go out since first, he was rather far from home, and second, he got a better job as a medical transcriptionist.
On Topic: Maybe you can claim you did work/train for that hospital, but was unable to finish your contract, so you can't produce a certification?

actually, the procedure you did is right. You did not do wrong. You don't need to resign. You just need to transfer to other unit. Like what I did, I was not happy with the way my co-workers treated me, so what I did, I spoke with our unit manager and DEMAND for an immediate transfer. After 3 days, I was transfered to other unit and very happy about it. I dont care about the new adjustment, all I want is to have a new environtment and new beginning.
There's a reason for everthing.... You just need to find ways to stay away from them. If your unit manager doesn't agree with the unit transfer, I go with the area manager and so on....
Last time, it so happen that an admin nurse spoke to me in the elevator, she asked where I am assigned, " I answered her, I am now in ____ ." I didn't tell her that I transfer from other unit. Maybe the approach of the conversation tell her what happened. She paused for awhile and smiled. Then said, it is very important that your happy on where your working...
Wherever we go, whatever profession we have, there will always be people who will pull you down until you give up. We just have to deal with it. If you think what's happening is not health on your part, then go to other unit. Your not working for them, your working for your own future and family. Don't let those rotten egg ruin your future. And besides, it's ver hard to look for a job nowadays... It's your choice my dear...

hi Fmog!!!
thats so sad to hear...r u working in PGH (coz u mention NSO)
why dont you try talking to the priest there maybe he can help you...and then talk to someone else...do they have a guidance councilor...if they harrass you...then call the attention of the president of the hospital...

if they can't be professional because of their insecurities and immaturities with you, then let them be. talk with your supervisor first and never let such kind of crabs pull you down, as long as you are on the righteous side, leave everything to God and sooner or later, they'll be having something bad on their way for sure because of their unjust actions.
i just want to motivate you even just for a little and i hope it would somehow affect your esteem right now because i am feeling a frustrated and a degrading self esteem from you as i read your post...
nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent, but you have to choose the people worth of your time and confrontation and not just with those kind that seemed to be uneducated or you'll just be worst than them in the end.
