Average hours an RN works a week

Published

Hello,

Im a pre-student, and new to this. Whats the average hours an RN works a week?

Take care

depends on what you want. I work 32 hours

Specializes in NICU, PACU, Pediatrics.

full time at our hospital is 36 hours but we can work up to 60 if we want.

It seems like it doesn't matter how many hours you're technically supposed to work according to what you've signed on for...it always seems like you work way more with overtime hours added. I'm finding that our staff who are part-time (including myself) are picking up a ton more hours as overtime making our part-time job practically full-time because of an increasing nursing staff shortage!

Specializes in med surg, oncology, outpt and hospice.

I work 36 and love it. I am a baylor weekend person so I work 36 and get paid for 40.:yeah:

If you work 12's, 36 hours is full time. If you work 8's it's 40.

i hired on as 72 hrs per payperiod, but due to turnover and an sicu shortage, we have been flexed to 80 hrs per payperiod. 6-12's and 1-8 hr per period is tolerable, basically i have off seven days per payperiod.

I work 40 hours a week- two 12's and two 8's.

Specializes in L&D,Lactation.

I work 32. 4, 8 hour days, actually evenings.

36 hours 3 weeks a month and then the fourth week is 48 hours (1 extra 12 hour shift). I always thought everyone who worked 3 12's worked like that, but I guess I was wrong.

Specializes in SICU, EMS, Home Health, School Nursing.

I was employed to work 36 hours per week, but we can pick up extra hours if we want. The max they let us work is 60 hours per week. For the next couple months I am going to be working about 44 hours... 3-12s and 1-8
