Austin Community College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hi pre-nursing students!

So I know it's extremely early but I figured I'd go ahead and start a thread for Spring 2020 applicants. I'm a huge worry bug and have tons of questions and would love to give and receive advice throughout this process. I'm completing my last two prerequisites this spring and will be applying when the application opens on May 15th! Tell me about your journey and ask questions about mine!

Is anyone else taking other classes while taking the nurses skills class? I’m registered for 2 other classes that will go towards my bachelors degree later on just to take advantage of the semester. I’m not sure if this is a good idea or if I’m the only one. Thoughts?

Just a heads up to those starting 1105 next week -- at least for CYP Fridays -- the syllabus is up and there is a decent amount of homework to be done before the first class. Make sure to check BB!

I’m taking two other classes as well. Music appreciation and a speech class that are needed to complete the ADN. I’m taking them online because I think it will make it easier for me prioritize where I need to, when I need to. You got this!!

Three learning sheets due on day one! But I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about a class before! I got all my print outs today (we don’t own a printer so my bf prints everything at the office for me)

If you (or anyone!) want to get together before class to review/study for 1105 at cypress on fridays - email me: [email protected]

What do you mean "needed to complete ADN?"

I talked to an advisor and they told me that in order to get any degree you have to have the Core Completion Courses done, along with whatever goes with the programs outline. The advisor showed it to me under online services. I’m trying to attach a picture so you can see. It’s confusing and I’m not quite sure how to explain it.

@ashlynhope the Texas core completion is required per BACHELORS and transfer out of to a 4 year college , is my understanding. The ADN is just the 4 pre reqs and 3 co reqs (pysch, ethics and English 1 )

There is also a core for associates degrees in Texas. I believe this is what @ashlynhope is referring to.

There is a separate core requirement for bachelor’s degrees.

I saw that since I too was told that when I first began. But came to find out it was notS but I do remember back in 2013 they had required it per ADN, but a lot changed. But maybe it’s particular ones? Well good luck ! I’m taking 2 other classes as well ! Creative arts and US history 2 !

Wow! Thanks for the info. That was not explained to me at all. I’m so glad I found this page. Everybody knows so much information and makes things easier to understand

No problem ! Yeah long ago it was required but since now ACC can do BSN They dropped those required for ADN , but if you plan to pursue BSN later of a bachelors in other things I would definitely complete your Texas core ! Good luck!

This is the degree plan for ADN. No other classes required.
