I'm a Fall 2010 applicant at ACC and thought it would be nice for all the Fall 2010 hopefuls to have our own thread to share exciting news, information, and support with each other.
I turned in my application last Friday (Dec. 18th) after taking the HESI exam. I feel good about my scores but I anticipate competition for the Fall spots is going to be quite fierce. After that large applicant pool for Spring I think we will see a lot of re-applicants applying with the 5 extra re-application points. Not sure what that will mean for the ranking scores but it will be interesting to see . . .
Good luck to all the Fall 2010 applicants!
Okay well my friend was up at the Cypress campus and the lady told him the wrong info. They don't have any syllabuses today. The lady that told me and him that they had some didn't check the shelf before answering our questions. So he spent his lunch break driving up there. So I would call first to make sure they have them available for sure!
Yeah I don't know why they offer a used one. Seems to me that the syllabus would be a paper thing and be easily thrown away.
The guy at the Eastview store made it sound like the syllabus was different for each different section. Like for me, I have to buy the distance learning one. I just want to get this semester started. My whole life and career depend on if I get accepted or not!!
I went to EVC and got mine today. All the ones they had were marked Fall 2009. I asked the nice guy at the bookstore about it; he said that he'd looked it up and it was the right one (but told me to keep it sealed until class started, just in case I needed to exchange it).
FYI, the new price for our textbook on Amazon is about the same as the used price at the bookstore...
When I was in Nursing Skills I took my own Stethoscope but ended up using the schools most of the time. The ones you have to check off with are those teaching Stethoscopes with the two headsets. During our practice time I would share the teaching Stethoscope with another student and then we were able to compare our readings.
I purchased a Littmann Classic II S.E. scope and really like it.
Radiation,
It's about half an inch thick. Our section is on Blackboard, too, and says the same thing about buying or purchasing the syllabus.
The syllabus I bought is sealed, so I don't know what's in it. If it's the modules and whatnot that are on Blackboard, I'll probably return the paper syllabus to the bookstore.
There is another post on the RN website saying in big red letter DO NOT call the office for a status on your application. Wow! Is it just me or do they seem more stressed this semester? I don't recall reading posts like that in the previous terms. Or maybe we are just a part of some really impatient Type A personalities! If that's the case.....please Lord let me have a spot in the online program!! haha!
Radiation - you're right, they definitely seem more stressed this time around. There is a new post that they are releasing petitions to applicants at 46 points to fill in the rest of the spots in the 1105 sections starting this week. I wonder if they'll get down to 45 to fill the sections that start in March?
How was everyone's first day of 1105? adamsrtb and sh1121 -- were you with C or D in the lab yesterday? I ask because C let us leave early, and a couple of us went into D's lab with her students and she went over more details about checkoffs than C did. I am loving both of them though!

I just got off the phone with both the Eastview and Cypress Creek bookstores. The lady at Cypress told me that you can purchase your syllabus there only if you are registered for the traditional class there at Cypress. If you are taking it at Eastview or online, then you have to purchase it at Eastview and both stores have them available.
