I'm a Fall 2010 applicant at ACC and thought it would be nice for all the Fall 2010 hopefuls to have our own thread to share exciting news, information, and support with each other.
I turned in my application last Friday (Dec. 18th) after taking the HESI exam. I feel good about my scores but I anticipate competition for the Fall spots is going to be quite fierce. After that large applicant pool for Spring I think we will see a lot of re-applicants applying with the 5 extra re-application points. Not sure what that will mean for the ranking scores but it will be interesting to see . . .
Good luck to all the Fall 2010 applicants!
I want the online/hybrid but if I don't get that, then I would choose the Eastview. I have heard bad things from people who took the CEC option. I try not to listen to some rumors but everyone I heard the bad things about it all complained about the same things. So something must be wrong there. But I am kind of at the point where I will take what I can get and make the most out of it.
RadiationRN2Be - I don't know what you heard about CEC but that is where I go and I love it! I' currently in Level 2 and even though I thought I wanted the hybrid program, I am glad, glad, glad that I got placed at CEC. I've had some great teachers and being in the hospital setting is great!
CEC doesn't have the same lecture schedule as EVC. I met a couple of students from EVC during my mental health rotation and it seems like our lectures made a little more sense...like we learned acid base balance before we talked about specific illnesses (like diabetes) so it came together a little better. Also, I heard there were a couple of instructors to avoid at EVC but that is probably true of any program. I just know there was a Level 1 teacher I did NOT want and it I had been placed at EVC I would have deferred until the next semester. As it turns out I am doing better, grade wise, than some friends of mine who are in the hybrid program so I am thankful to be where I am and I recommend it to anyone who asks.

I don't think any of the EVC level 1 instructors were so terrible that you would have to defer a whole semester to avoid them. I am pretty sure I know who you are referring to, and I would have avoided that person's clinical group at all costs. However, I wound up getting a "Horrible" instructor for clinical and they were absolutely amazing.
I think CEC got a bad reputation their first semester or two because several people failed and had to re-take level 1. It sounds like they have gotten their act together the last couple of years.
I had personal experience with one of the EVC instructors and didn't think I could withstand an entire semester of that again. Also, since I take the bus, getting to the EVC was also more complicated for me. If I had been placed at EVC, I would have deferred for a semester based on the big picture, not just on one instructor.
We did have one person fail during Level 1 but she had some personal things going on in her life and she is currently re-taking Level 1 at CEC. We had 2 students removed from the program during Level 1 and we had 1 student drop at the beginning of Level 2.
Like I said, I'm sure every program has at least one instructor that rubs someone the wrong way. There was a lot of negative talk about one instructor and I am actually thankful I am in that clinical group. I am learning tons and, despite all the "talk," there isn't a lot of drama. Yes, the paperwork load is tremendous...but then again, show me a group who doesn't have a lot of clincial paperwork in Level 2. No one ever said Nursing School is easy!! :)
All that being said, the only negative thing about classes at CEC is we have to share the lab space with other programs. So, you have to take advantage of the Open Lab time and not wait until the very last minute or you run the risk of not being able to practice your skill.

That is totally understandable. :) I am a new grad and I had an experience with one of the preceptors, not mine, and I vowed I would have asked for a change had she been assigned to me. I really liked the feel of CEC when we would go there for pre/post conference, if that makes sense. I think it was because it's actually in a hospital.
For what it's worth, the paperwork gets better after level 2. Levels 1 and 2 were horrible for me, just because they were so busy with SO MUCH paperwork. I wanted to die sometimes..but it was all downhill from there. Take a summer class if you are able to. You will be sitting pretty while everyone else is stressed out. Level 4 is the best because we only had 4 weeks of paperwork! Plus, you're so busy looking for jobs that it will fly by.
ACC has a great program and it really prepares you for the real world. Just make sure to study infection control like crazy for NCLEX. I wish they had put more emphasis on that during school. I also hope the job market is better once you graduate! I had to move to get the specialty I wanted. Enjoy spring break and good luck with the rest of the semester.
June 1?! How is that possible, when they start taking Spring 2011 apps on May 15? Don't we have to know one way or the other, so we can reapply if we don't make it?
There was something about the March 1105 classes posted on 2/24 before, so I think they just replaced that text with the new announcement rather than doing a new entry. That's why it wasn't there over the weekend.
Our Nursing Skills instructor had indicated that the best tact is always to resubmit your application, a fairly easy process if you've already done it once, as an application can always be withdrawn with a simple phone call, email, or visit to the office.
I think the fact that ***** ****** recently resigned as the Nursing Dept Advisor may have something to do with the extended notification date since she was responsible for much of the application processing.
For Fall 2009 applicants they released initial notification on May 7th.
We'll just have to wait a few more weeks.

Nerdgirl -- oops, crossposted with you. No, you just need the book and syllabus. They have all the other stuff you'll need. 1105 is a lot of fun!
I wonder if they'll post something that says "offer letters will not go out before X date" like they did for spring. That would make the wait just a teeny bit easier. Who wants to take the bullet and call the office to ask? ;-)
Hope everyone's semester is going well! My awesome classmates and I did our final checkoffs tonight and have the comprehensive final exam tomorrow.
Question -- I know that a lot of us want the online/hybrid option as our first choice if we get in for fall. But what's everybody's second choice, EVC or CEC? (Or if you don't want to do online, what's your first choice?)
