August NCLEX Test Takers Random Q&A PN's & RN's All Welcome

Published

:idea:Lets get together people, pray and study smart not hard. I would like to start this Random Q&A to help us prepare for NCLEX cuz I really wanna pass on the 1st try:D . Good luck to Y'all:up:

Check out the random facts sticky at the top of the forum. Good luck.

I'm taking mine in August as well!! What are you using to review? I'm using Kaplan and Hurst.

My NCLEX set for August as well. It'll be..... interesting. :dzed:

My scheduled second week of August and right now I'm using Exam Cram, Saunders and a little bit of Mosby, hopeful they help.

Question... I had a similar practice question in two different sources. Basically, post-delivery mom having heavy bleeding, what do you do first?

One source gave the right answer as assess for bladder distention, the other source had massage the fundus as the right answer. (The rationale on that one said that bladder distention would also cause the uterus to be unable to properly clamp down.)

So, if, as in the case of these questions, you have to pick ONE, which is right?

I've been using Hurst (I took it last month) and Davis's Q&A NCLEX-RN review by Kathleen Ohman. The Davis has a book & CD (you can get it used on half.com for less than $30). It is good because it has really good explanations (I learn a lot from the explanations of the other answers even when I get it right). The questions are hard but I think good. The only thing is, some of the answers are wrong!! It's really weird, the explanations are all correct but some of the numbers are wrong - like the numbers/order listed will be wrong in a prioritization or select all that apply question. And all the medication questions on the CD are missing decimal points! Like I said you'd need to give 1.2 mL of morphine and I know it was right but they said 12mL! Which is like, a classic possibly deadly mistake... ugh. So you have to look closely at all the ones you answer - cuz you could do it right and it would say it's wrong, or you could do it wrong and it could say it's right!

I did my preceptorship in L&D and you would massage the fundus. And that's what I remember learning in school.

Thanks, I appreciate that! That's what I'd learned too, so you can imagine my surprise when the first source said you'd check for bladder distention first, and then the second source said massage the fundus first.

This would throw me for a loop too. I learned that you would ask mom to void if the fundus has gotten bigger from the previous fundus check. Then do massage. I always thought on the NCLEX you want to do the least invasive thing first (if both are correct). Asking mom to void seems like it would be the correct answer. I do not know. On both the questions did they give you both options? So mixed up. :uhoh3:

when it comes to postpartum, if the mother has heavy bleeding always do fundus massage, if you check her fundus and its boggy and to the right than that's bladder distention and she needs to void. but if she is bleeding, it has nothing to do with her bladder. so the 2nd source is correct, fundus massage.
