Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?
Heyyy soon to be classmates:) I've been lurking on the May forum and glad I found this one for August!! I too have a GPA of 2.9 so I am definitely nervous as well:nailbiting: gonna take the HESI hopefully in the next couple weeks (currently studying).
We can do this, I saw on the May forum someone had a 2. something GPA as well and got in so we at least have a chance!!!

Well at least im not alone! Lol we can be nervous together. Im actually headed out there now to put my application in, then ill take my hesi next week!
I wonder if that explains Broward's retention rate how it is so low with a HIGH drop out rate. . . Maybe it's not the program and professor but the student they are accepting.
No that has nothing to do with the gpa at all. The high drop out is due to the weeding out of the weak. There are many 4.0's who get dropped from the program because they missed a skills assessment too many times or they fail more than twice. Its about being meticulous in your studying, return demo skills and how strict your professors are. I know many nurses who entered in low gpa's go on to be great nurses while the "4.0, i think i have it in the bag" students have to retrack.

As any of us know, the gpa they really look at only combine a&p and enc1101 and nothing else. Some people might have b's for all those classes and yet end up with a 2.5 but that doesn't mean they don't have the capacity to handle the nursing program. And we all have to remember that the gpa only get us in but it doesn't guarantee a way out.

We found out about a month before it started. They waited until the last minute. Was horrible for people that have to put a notice in at work or sign up for back up classes just in case.
