Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

Hi everyone, I am also planning to apply for the nursing program in August. I am so anxious and nervous about the Hesi exam. Is anyone here preparing for the exam yet, if so what materials are you using? Am freaking out because I want to take the exam by mid June, so I can have enough time to apply, but am worried that I might not have enough time to study.

I took tge hesi at the end of March and applied into the program for August the first week of April. I used two books to study and prepare. The Elvesier Hesi admission assessment guide and McGraw Hill Hesi practice tests. The Elvesier assessment guide is very close to the actual entrance exam. I got a 91.6% average in all areas. I scored 92% on anatomy, math, grammar, 94 in vocabulary and 86 in reading because I got too tired of reading a so many articles. I just wanted the exam to be over at that point. Its 4 hours long with no breaks......not even bathroom breaks.

Hi Everyone!

I have been going to school part time for a couple of years now in hopes of applying to the nursing program at Broward college. and I'm now FINALLY ready to start. I was taking Micro and lab this semester (winter 2014) and learned that it was no longer a pre-req for the program. I decided to drop it (since I was miserable with my bi-polar professor). I met with an advisor early March to go over everything and make sure that all my ducks were in a row. She advised me to hurry and take the hesi exam so that I can apply for May because she wasn't sure if Broward was changing the pre-reqs (yet again) for August. In the last week of March, I took the Hesi exam...I didn't really study for it...just looked over the math to refresh my memory. Surprisingly enough, I passed all 5 sections with a 90% or higher. I was so happy, I turned in my application the very same day!!! That happiness turned into stress the very next week.. :( I spoke to a lady in nursing admissions and she told me that they had "invited" enough students for the May term... and that I have to wait until students lose or decline their seats. But that doesn't mean I will be the first one chosen to fill the seat....there are other students ahead of me on the wait...and with higher grades I'm sure. Anyway, I'm just patiently waiting for an email stating whether I have been accepted or not either for the May or August term. I must check my email and myBC account about 20 times a day.....I hate this nerve wrecking wait!!!!

I'm so happy that I stumbled across this blog! It has been very insightful... and I'm glad to have found others who are also planning to start in the August term. :) I wish everyone GOOD LUCK!!! Hope I can help in anyway.

Hi everyone! Wanted to get myself involved on this topic since I just deferred my seat from May to August. If anyone needs anything let me know! & good luck on everything !

There have been lots of deferments of seats till August. .. But you still have to take micro... It just doesn't need to be done prior to starting.

I highly recommend you take micro during the summer if you're applying For august. as if the program is not enough work you have to take it before you can start your med/surg class and you wouldn't want to take it on while you have your regular class load. Plus based off the schedules I'm seeing it's pretty hard to find classes to go around the nursing program. It will be helpful as well in the program.

Wow your on a roll! Hopefully all will be well with your application. I know at least 3 or 4 people who are deferring their seats but also that there were like 25 students on a waiting list for summer term. Ive already resolved in my mind to go for August. It'll be less stress since summer is shorter and the SAME AMOUNT OF WORK. Goodluck! And great job on the Hesi!Any tips?

The work around Im going to use is taking Micro when we get that semester break in between the program. I cant take any classes this summer so I dont really have a choice. It'll probably suck since that break is what tons of nursing students wait for to breath again but hey, gotta do what I gotta do!

What campus is everyone trying to go to?

That's right ! Gotta do what you gotta do! It will be fine. I'm someone that always has to be doing something or I get bored. So when it slows down in the program I plan on finishing up my prereqs for the bsn. Theres someone in one of my current classes that's in the program and she says that if you manage right you can fit more classes than just the program

Thanks so much! I would love to start in August instead...but I'm only worried for pre-reqs changing. I'm really hoping not... Who knows, maybe we'll be classmates lol.

And for the hesi...

Math- pretty basic math. Focus on ratios and adding, substracting, mult, & dividing fractions. There is a calculator that you can use...which is seriously a life saver.

Reading and Grammar- This is pretty easy... It's pretty much the same idea as the SAT/ACT most people took in highschool.. You just have to read a paragraph and understand the idea.

Vocab- This was more difficult than I thought it was going to be... I've heard a lot of people say that quizlet helped them with this section. I don't know first hand because the only section I focused on studying for was math. There were a couple of words I have never even heard of in my life!

Anatomy- I don't think there is really a way to study for this section. The questions are so random!! The good thing is you can use process of elimination since it's multiple choice.

Hope this helps!

What campus is everyone trying to go to?

Central Campus... I was told this is the hardest campus :sniff: but it's the closest to where I live.
