Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

I had Professor Barclay. I had her at the Weston campus. I know she teaches at another campus as well, but I'm not 100% sure where exactly. Check her out! :) Good luck.

Went to bookstore today at central.. does anybody know about the clinical companions for fundamentals and med surg books.. they didn't have them there?? But it says we need it in the required text

Med surg is for GI/GU and Ortho. I bought the clinical companion for fundamentals and never opened it... Waste of money really, but the text stated the same.

Hello everyone, I'm currently on my journey to becoming a nurse however I came across a bump in the road. I have one more pre req to take before I can apply which is college algebra. Can anybody recommend a good teacher. Preferably at north or central campus will even consider online. Your help will be greatly appreciated and congrats to the people who did get accepted.

George fagley for North Campus, prof Helen Barclay is for Weston and South.

I can only speak for central campus. You will need perry and potter fundamentals and the Castillo stat book. I recommend buying a new Davis drug guide because it will come with an online code. Makes it a lot easier to copy and paste med info for your patient profiles. Med surg lewis you won't need until process 2. The only other book I highly reccomend is the Saunders nclex review. That book has gotten me through the program.

I got by without buying a math book cause I'm good at it. And no pharm book cause I had Dr. K

Do you think statistics is easier than algebra? If so what professor would you recommend

i will PM you

Central students:

The only books you will really NEED are the fundamentals of nursing text by Perry & Potter for lecture & the one for clinical. You will also need the Castillo book (for clinical).

If you have Dr.K for pharmacology, which everyone should if you are at Central or north, you will NOT need the text!!!!!!! please don't buy it lol. everything you need is on his power points.

For Math you won't need the text if you're good at math. I never bought the text and I did perfectly fine. I got 100% on the exam. Everything you need to know is gone over in class. & there are practice sheets online. Buying this book is up to your discretion, it is not needeD, but may be useful if you really need some extra help.

you can do without the clinical companion books... All you really need to do is study. I never bought one or used one. A lot of people didn't use this book and some who did eventually stopped. I reallyyyyy don't think they are necessary....................................... What you SHOULD spend your money on is the Fundamentals of Success book by Nungent!!!! Please buy this book! It helped me sooo much. It gets you used to the test questions & it also tests you on the information pertinent to nursing.

Oh! You should also buy the nursing diagnosis book. You will need it for care plans... I don't remember the exact name or author at the moment but it should be on the list.

Hope this helps :)

Ok if that doesnt work I'll give my email

I can't pm you but did you take sta2023 because algebra is killing me.

I know what you're going through. Imagine taking algebra while in OB and then Peds! Needless to say, I passed algebra but failed Peds by one point. I guess I shouldn't have taken it during the program. Oh well! You live and you learn. :)
