To those who are getting called off due to low census, please send me your address so I can ship you a few babies I worked in our Transitional Nursery for 3 nights this week..(admission/stabilization unit attached to L&D) and admitted 12 babies in addition to the ones that came in on day shift over a 72 hour period. Twins, cardiacs, TTNs, IDMs, chorios, preemies, you name it, I got it.
I've never worked so hard, or done so many admit assessments/histories in my entire career.
I think our census was up around 78 when I left. We "hold" 58.
Free babies?........anyone?
No chance, it bad enough here. I swear we are the only unit in the country that says 'ah we can make another space, we accept your in-utero/PN transfer'.
We've got babies from SO far away right now, I mean we always have lots of transfers in from around and about but it's getting so we have no room for our home-grown lot (we make space though...somehow!!)
Our census is 11 right now and as a matter of fact I just got a call from work telling me that I am cancelled for tomorrow. So here I am online looking for a perdiem job somewhere because I am cancelled at least 1-2 times a pay period. I have no hours to use and cannot afford it. If anyone hears of any job openings in the Philly area, let me know!!1 TY
Our census is low as well. We are either put on call or canceled based on whose turn it is. I have had to use some major PTO lately to cover my paycheck. PLEASE send all the sick babies our way!!! We are down to only 11 I hate to wish for sick babies but I also need to pay my bills!!!!!!!!!
Please - send us your babies. We have a 34 bed level III and our hospital has lost its only high risk delivery doc and hasn't found another in over 6 months. We run on average 12 babies now (had even 6 at one point!). Some of our staff had to be cross-trained for other floors, and some left. It's been a long dry spell.

Wow, really, you're lucky. I'd rather be busy than as slwow as our unit has been for months now and nurses are getting canceled.
