hello!! so, i'm thinking of attending westcoast university and taking the bsn/rn program in either june or sept.. i was wondering if anyone has gone to this school at all? is the entrance test hard at all? or anything i should be getting ready for? -- i'm not worried about the money. jus want feed back please :)
Instead of paying $132,000 for West Coast University, why not pay $17,000 to attend Western Governors University and still come out with a BSN? Now that makes sense. And by doing your WGU clinicals at Cedars-Sinai, you might just come out with a great job lined up to boot.
I've never heard of this place before? In this in LA? CA? Did you go here? Sounds interesting!
Advertised on this site often. Online University | Online Degree | Accredited Bachelor's and Master's Degrees Next cohort starts in September for those who have their prerequisites done.
The people who are entering now have done their prerequisites elsewhere. The nursing courses are done with WGU. The clinical courses are done at local site hospitals, one of them being Cedars-Sinai. You can read about the program at Online University | Online Degree | Accredited Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and contact the school to speak with an advisor or email them with your questions.
Someone just recently asked this question. Do a search, there are multiple threads about west coast university. The general consensus is: Don't do it. The student loan payments would easily be 1500/month for 10 years. In this economy with so many new nurses not finding jobs and uncertainty of what the future will bring it is not a wise investment.
Wow 1500 a month for 10 years. So you guys are projecting the total cost with interest to amount to around 180k ? So each year you are giving up 18,000 for 10 years... Dang you sure you want to do this? Thats like receiving lpn pay as an RN for 10 years.
I really don't think the cost is that much. I spoke with an admissions counselor today and she said minimum is:15,750 (I think this is per semester) they have 2-21/2 semesters a year. so in a year (minimum) you would pay:31,500. For 3 years it's 94,500. But if you are going into their program with credits already, this cuts down your time their so it could be even less. They are a Nationally accredited school as well. Which is a good thing.
Hi, there...
The tuition at West Coast Univ. is in the $132,000 range if you have no prerequisite classes completed prior to enrollment, which is rather steep in my humble opinion. Let's crunch the numbers so as to give you a better idea of what you'd possibly be getting yourself into.
If you obtain a $132,000 student loan at 6.875% interest for a ten year term, your repayment would be a whopping $1524.14 per month. This large monthly student loan payment does not leave much room for other bills such as a mortgage, rent, car payment, utilities, food, gas, maintenance, entertainment, contributions to a retirement account, savings, and extras.
It's your choice...

:) Im just totally shocked by the price. And I thought i had it bad.. paying a whole 2,300 dollars for a semester... and then textbooks on top.
All I know is I have done Maternity, Pediatrics, and Residential (ECU) setting, and I will be going into Surgical next thursday... and I LOVE IT. I love everything about nursing. Its amazing. Yes it is freaking scary like all of the time,... but the first time a patient says they would prefer you to do it.. or they would rather you be in the room.. its so rewarding to know that you have actually made that partnership with someone and that they TRUST you.
Whatever school you decide on... it will be the right choice for you :) and in the end the reward will be something unimaginable. Your only 22? I'm only 19 :) but yet we have people who are 42 in our class.. people with families... and kids.. and babys... and parents..
So there is no wrong decision. Find a program that is for you. If you want tons of clinical time find that program. If you prefer small classes large classes... fast track... blah blah. its out there :)
Good Luck!
