I am so intrigued by Atkins, but at the same time, terrified! I am an absolute carb addict. I can't imagine not eating bagels, english muffins, toast, cereal - and those are just the breakfast foods I'd have to give up! I LOOOOOVE pasta. I loooooooove Mexican food like tacos, etc. I do enjoy fruits and veggies, though I think I heard that carrots and tomatoes are no-no's? Those are among my favorites :o I love cheese. But I adore potatoes, too. I do like sweet potatoes - is that ok?? Is there hope for me on Atkins??? I need to lose about 60 pounds.

YES there is hope for you! I believe it was mentioned here before, but a lot of people think the Induction( first two weeks) phase of Atkins is how you must eat through out! That is a myth. Induction can last as long as you would like, but you must remain on it for at least two weeks. Based on what I have read, you lose the most weight during this phase. Atkins is very doable, don't let people scare you. When you move on to other phases in the diet you slowly add back the carbs. You must add them back in a certain order. I don't think you will ever have to live without your toast, cereal, muffins, bagels, etc. You just won't eat them as much as you did before. The more you exercise the more carbs you can have, so if you become really active you could probably eat those things you love in moderation with out any problems. I PROMISE you will feel better instantly. You have to drink the water. I believe that is what done it for me. I had so much more energy!! If I were you, I would go to the website, www.atkins.com and read the info. That is basically what I did. I didn't buy the book. I went to Barnes and Nobles and read it a little, and I didn't see much difference. There is also a 1-800# you can call with questions. It is a very simple diet to follow. Good luck and let us know how it goes. PM if you have any other questions.

I haven't done ATKINS because it's actually not that good for you. It's high in fat and protein, while being slim to no carbs.

I've been on the South Beach Diet which is similar to Atkins, but better on the kidneys/heart. It's low-carb, but mainly GOOD carbs (complex) in low amounts, while being low-fat at the same time.

I've lost 11 lbs and have more energy than ever before.

I think Atkin's would be good if you modified it, lower in fat and having "good" carbs.

I'm back. Well as for the 3 cups of veggies a day :chuckle I have soooo much more than that and I am still loosing weight. My start weight on the 27th was 258and in 4 days I think it was I lost 2lbs. Well I am happy to say I am at 254lbs and AF on the way so water retention But still in a week and 1 day I lost 4lbs. That is eating as much as I want on the accepted list!:)

Hot dogs are a lunch fav of mine! Yes sir Hotdogs.:rotfl: I will boil wienners and cut them up in a bowl and add homemade chile and cole slaw with mustard and eat with a spoon instead of a bun:chuckle It is great and chips well bring on the pork rinds. or It could be a chile cheese dogs too just trade slaw for a sprinkle of chedder cheese.

Well who loves hamburgers or cheese burgers? You can have it too. I get my plate and place lettuce tomato pickles and a slice of onion with my hamburger meat in a circle with mayo in the center of the plate and I "go to town" You can have more than one piece of meat and eat until you are full. No bun needed here!:chuckle

I must add I drink my 64oz of water and no pop at all. But I have not quit drinking my morning coffee with caf in it or I would have a headache from H*** I am still loosing weight that is all that matters to me. That is the goal right?:)

I have not been able to get my lazy butt up to exercise yet. That is my next step

I would love some ideas for breakfast though because after a while eggs and bacon get a little tiresome Someone told me they eat chicken I think I will try it this week.:)

Yuo can actually make several flourless quiches at once and store in the firg and just nuke in the micorwave. Almost anything will work for the insides.

Examples:

1. grilled onions, several types of mushrooms, spinach, swiss chees

2. shredded chicken, mushrooms, baby corn, swiss cheese

3. zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach

4. chicken or turkey sausage, onions, mushrooms, cheese

5. loose hamburger, some type of sausage, pepperoni, and ?

Cook or brown all of the ingredients first. Put in a non-stock pan, I like frying pan size. Depending on how many that you are making, mix eggs with either sour cream or whipping cream and pour over the top. They will require baking for about 30 minutes (depends on pan size).

I always used real Swiss cheese over here, actually from Switzerland, and we do not have much of a choice of dairy products. With the cream, it tastes like a custard.
