Hey folks,
Has any gone through ASU's RN-BSN program? I was thinking about applying after NS. Any comments? Thanks in advance.

Becca,
No, not at all! I unexpectedly got pregnant after graduation and ended up having some complications so I quit my RN job after only 2 months. Then I just ended up staying at home to care for her. I have worked very part time though in an old non-nursing job, really just because I can pick my hours and it was (is!) so flexible. But not near RN pay..so....
but I do kinda kick myself for leaving now, wish I had just stuck with it then despite, you know, cuz everything gets 10,000 x harder when you have kids! That said, the time I have had with her has truly been a gift!
It is nice to "see" you again! I remember you too. What area of nursing did you do and is it too forward of me to ask why you aren't working now?:wink2:
And Becca,
So you are paying out of your own pocket for tuition? Do you know roundabouts how much the BSN will cost?
Also..what do you want to do with your BSN? I know I still have to "do my time" in floor nursing but eventually I'd love to do medical claim review or something like that since I have a background in claims and I love to research!! I really am just a thinker at heart. I think that is why I liked school more than the real world of nursing lol
And WOW..did we graduate around the same time?? Where oh where does the time go!

I remember you too! I also wondered why you hadn't practiced...but I can't imagine a better reason to not practice nursing!
Hello:How did you like Statistics at RIO? I am taking it right now and am really worrying about the midterm. I was told the midterm is nothing like the homework and chapter problems. Do you have any thoughts on the class?
Thank you
It was pretty easy, and the homework/chapter problems do resemble the mid term and final exams. Just time consuming is all.
Did we graduate around the same time? I graduated from Estrella in May of 07. I was an LPN for a year before that, I was working in acute med/surg and floated to an inpatient dialysis floor also. So I stayed there. I also had a new baby, he was born 6 weeks before graduation! I worked for a year after graduation but it wore on me so much (I worked a lot of nights) that I've been home for a year now with the little one. I want to get this BSN and then go back to work, I figure if I don't finish now, I might not ever!
I'm doing the BSN basically to keep me knowledgable and advancing in the field without having to go back to work. Since work would be so time consuming right now. I keep my ACLS updated tho, and am going to do the 2 day/week critical care class at gateway this fall also. Right now I'm in school finishing up 2 last pre-reqs for this ASU program before it starts. She emailed me that I was approved for the petition to start in august (I had to petition since I turned my app in late) But that there aren't any spots open right now, however they have 30 online spots so I will probably get one of those if I can't get into the on-campus program.
I am going to defer my student loan and add onto it for the cost of the program. I think one year at ASU is a little under 10K? I'm not exactly sure because I am doing it no matter what, and I'm financing it so I never checked about tuition. I want to continue on for my masters and DNP afterwards though, and i hope to just keep on going without taking any breaks after I get the BSN. I will work after the BSN though, I wanna get back on the floor once my little one goes to preschool. He's two now.
When do you think you'll get back into nursing?
Becca

Becca,
So the RN-BSN at ASU doesn't have any openings? WOW, one yr at ASU is 10 grand? And the RN-BSN, it is 16 mos?
So, I think the only pre req for me is statistics, right? What did you take?
ALSO...the online program...is it ALL online? I won't travel further than ASU West. What have you found out?
Just a quick update from when I started this post. I deferred the first time, so I will actually be going this fall. I think that the majority of the program is now online instead of the one day a week option that it was last fall. I've also taken Gateway's Critical Care course; PM if you have questions.

hey! crazypremed! im just wondering....did u go into the RN-BSN program from becoming an RN at a university or did u get your RN at one of the community colleges in Arizona and is the ASU RN-BSN program known to be as competitive as the 4 year RN degree (without having an RN degree already? how do you like the program and do u know of the lowest gpa that gone in as well as how many people they accept? thanks so much!

There was nothing in the paperwork that said anything about floor nursing experience required. I am currently not working (although did floor nursing for 2 years) and that's why I chose asu instead of something like grand canyon or u of p. I think those other ones have you use your work for clinical hours or something.
I also know that some people apply from the community colleges before they've even taken boards, so...
I used to post here under "phoenixgirl" and i remember you! Is it too forward to ask how come you never went into nursing after graduation?
